Um, I got 1/10... apparently I'm as superstitious as (insert cliché here) :P As a pretty famous space pirate once said, "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side..."

*hides hers from Robert* :?

I want to dispute that black cat thing! Here, it's good luck to let a black cat cross your path...

Also, chain letters dont bring bad luck-just irritation *narrows eyes, growls*

Finally, who the heck thinks leaving hats on beds brings bad luck? :?:v On second thoughts, dont answer that!

A hat on the bed comes in handy when clothes are forgotten! =P

I'm like Korny, I know what the answers are supposed to be. Honestly, though, I'm not that superstitious. Mainly when I see a black cat, walk under a ladder, or accidentally open an umbrella inside, the first thought that comes to me is, "Oh, heh, look what I did."

I scored a 3/10 just by virtue of answering what I would do, rather than what it wanted me to do to be the most superstitious.

"You got 0/10 correct."

I think I must have accumulated a few centuries of bad luck by now... :?

You got 3/10 correct.

And I agree with KC, in Britain it's considered good luck for a black cat to walk across your path :)

Not superstitious

You probably make a point of stepping on cracks in the sidewalk and opening umbrellas in the house. (The more questions you answered "correctly," the more superstitious you are.) You got 0/10 correct.

Whee!

I got 1, and that was the penny in the wallet thing. But here, you do that so that the wallet will never be empty, not for good luck as such. And the black cat being lucky applies here too (as someone else has pointed out.)

The thing is that I AM very superstitious, but not in the ways outlined in this quiz. It's hard to explain. I think the best way I could put it is that I think it's very easy to ignore or miss signs and little hints that life throws at us; for example, as hunter gatherers, we would have used our senses and gut feelings far more than we do now.

Also many superstitions are rooted in commonsense. We don't walk under ladders because it's a little bit dangerous, ie falling things. When the Housemartins mass to migrate earlier than usual the winter usually is harsher. And so on. I think some superstitions are plain daft but all in all it's no bad thing really. :)

Does any of that make sense or am I babbling again?

Yes you are babbling *giggles* at Babel LOL

But commonsense seems to be the key....

I am not really superstitious exactly but I am cautious of what I do..

When I was a kid they would say walk on a crack break your mothers back.  Now I was not superstitious didn't really believe that but then again I would not want to hurt my mother.

Is there such a thing as an agnostic superstitious person?

I do believe in premonitions....second sight as you were.

Some will call them miracles, some esp....and some dejavu....

3/10

And that is just knowing several of these superstitions. Do I panic on Fridays, especially Friday the 13th? nah...

Just be careful and use your head for something other than a hat rack.

"Legend has it that if you drink all the bubbles on the surface of your coffee, you will soon have lots of money."

Hmmm, I should get another cup of coffee and test this theory. :P

Yes, I think so Zilette. It depends on what you define as the source for superstition, I suppose. There was an excellent book called 'Supernature' by Lyal Wilson written, I think, in the seventies, which looked at incredible phenomena in nature and explained them from a scientific point of view. There interesting thing was that the explanations were often as bizarre as the phenomena themselves and led one to believe that magic does exist in this world, though magic of a 'natural' manner, ie there is magic in nature itself.

Now a Christian can see this as pertaining to the Almighty and His influence, a pagan like myself can see other explanations and a complete athiest still has to admit there are amazing things around us that we don't understand, and that may contain hidden or subtle clues for us to heed. Ergo, superstition in that sense is perfectly sensible! ;)

I got 4 out of 10... mainly cuz I didn't know the hat thing......*runs to her room to take all her hats off her bed*.... plus I have 2 black cats so if one crosses my path I just say Hi to Gus or wonder why Sheba(one of the newborn kittens) is out of the nest! *L*

I only regard Friday as an unlucky day if it's the 13th of the month.... but this site doesn't give enough... like what about the other superstitions??? like if u step on a crack you'll break your mother's back or find a penny pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck(especially if it's face up).... :P
