My female friends make me go in the bathroom with them.... I don't know why. I used to make my best friend come with me but that was at track meets where there were idiots all around and she would just crack a joke and they'd all leave... voila, empty bathroom!
... I have no idea. I'm not a bathroom-in-groups kinda girl. I hate it when there are other people in the bathroom. LONG LIVE ONE TOILET LOCKED ROOMS! *hails taco bell*

Urinal ettiquette for men though.
Women have stalls and ettiquette is a bit different. If there a couple of people in there you pick the one furthest away, but if it's busy it doesn't matter.

I agree with Todd. This is stupid! *rage* I got 20.
However, I do have the worlds greatest bladder, and rarely need to go when I'm out and about. The exception, of course, is when clubbing and pubbing - during which, I'm far to plastered to care about any of this.

I'm not so sure we have specific stall ettiquette as women so much as "coveted stall". For example...furthest away from the door/sinks closest to the wall stall. That's a favored spot, the best place to pee.
After that it's stalls with doors that actually close and lock.

Actually that's true.
And in the case of my place of work the stall with the toliet seat still attached to the toliet.

KK *nods* completely understandable. At my school the bathrooms in the dorms and a few select buildings are in need of much repair. Most of the stall doors don't actually lock. In one bathroom there's only two stalls and the one that doesn't lock is closest to the sink and the door. Thankfully we all know it doesn't lock so everyone checks for feet before entering.
Common courtisy amongst women. Check for feet.
And it seems to be personal perference to the stall thing...if the coveted stall is taken, do you go to the second closest to the wall or two stalls over? It's a deliemma. I'm 50-50 on that one. Depends if I know the person in the farthest stall (in which case I usually offer to race, although that throws some people off).

That reminds me about a funny story actually, lol. In the dorm on the first floor all three stall doors do not lock. TWo girls were having a pee one day and unbenownst to them there were 8 other girls in the bathroom with two buckets of water. A couple of girls pushed open the stall doors and the two with buckets dowsed the poor squatters. Then there was much screaming and running out of the bathroom to avoid immediate retribution (there was however, much retribution later and I'm proud to say I played a small tinsy weensy part in it). I wasn't actually on the floor when it happened, I came down the stairs just as I heard a splash and a stampede of girls came pouring out of the latrine.

Hmm well this is no school
We just sit and b!tch about the state of the building and how ridiculous it is that we regularily run out of loo roll and the hand towel runs done and doesnt get replaced etc etc.

Ahhh, ya'll were talking about going to the toilet fartherest from the door/next to the wall and such.. Think about this for a moment. If everyone is going to those at the other end...(which I know alot of peeps do..) the one closest to the door is usually the cleanest. *L*

Yes, but a lot of the bathrooms these days don't even have doors, just a rounded entrance. I'd prefer to be as far away from that as possible.

Okay I always take the stall closest to the door, if I can, that is because I can't hold my breath to take the stall a long way from the door. Most of the time, 99% of the doors don’t lock, that is fine though because, 99% of the time the whole stall walls come up to your waist.
Though some small country public loos don’t even bother with that.
The joys of public toilets in a different culture.

Hong Nasty! I actually will complain to a restruant manager or store owner if their bathroom is gross. I went into one of the McDonalds at West Ed and they had PEE on the floor of their bathroom. I was reeeeeeally grossed out.

While it's up to McDonalds to keep the toliet clean (the worst one I was in was in a McDonalds in Dublin) it's rather disgusting of someone to pee on the floor

Hong, I may up envying your culture's toilets...
I have heard mass rumors that public bathrooms in Ghana consist of "trough-like" things that you basically have to squat over. HOLY. crap. (Lucky for me, I also have one of the most amazing bladders in the world, so after I get adjusted into the food/water I can always hold it for my host family's toilet!!

Speaking of holding it, I used to be able to go without a day before succumbing to the need to squat. Now I can't get through the night without going at least once, sometimes twice! Anybody else have this problem?

Pee on the floor? Ugh...most camp grounds over in my neck of the woods have extremely gross restrooms... *shudder*
