Queen : I have costume piccies in my grouper folder! :D

It was hot in that Greedo mask! Jeeez! :P I was laughing alot.

Pictures are not the best. because i was hoping to pull a load off of the filming i'd done against a green screen.

But, that was a bit of a disaster. I could'nt do anything with the video. So, it's back to the drawing board on the filming.

I'm going to revert back to a blue screen i used for my first ever attempts. It worked, i just had an idea the green would be better...but it was'nt. :P

Also, i'd like to say welcome aboard to Matt. :) He's done alot to help us. And i felt it was about time to officialy have him in the team.

Good luck!  :D

Monny : If you did want to put together a costume, i could add you into a scene. :)

You would be appearing with Jabba the Hutt. And Neo Hawkeye, in a hologram message. So, a kind of blue tint, but with some colour coming through.

If you'd like to mail me you can. anthmartian@gmail.com

Blue / Green screen tests.

I did a Green screen test last week. The green sheet i used was just not good enough. I experimented with turning up the colour on the video file. It helped alot, very nearly worked. But i'm going to buy a very bright, vibrant green poster board to try out.

I'll keep everyone planning green/blue screen filming upto date on the results.

Okay peeps,

I assembled my costume minus a couple key parts (holster/blaster).  And the feedback I've gotten is that it looks very good.  I took a pre pre-production photo, but am not going to release it at this time.  Definately going to buy some extreemly bright posterboard.  I also took the pic by running to the camera, hitting the timer, then running back.  Anywhoos, I should have a pic with full blaster/hoster in another week.

Okay okay okay...If you're part of the crew and want to see the pic, email me and let me know... :P

I'd really like to get the rest of those MP3's or WAV's. I'm impressed :)

If you still have troubles. Maybe try http://www.yousendit.com you can upload up to 1GB and then add e-mail addresses to who you wish to download it, once its uploaded.

DeBoe : Great. I'll have grouper on over the next day or so and hopefully i'll nab it.

FM : You'd be suprised just what skills are useful. There are many aspects to this films production. If you'd like to help there's probably a way. :)

You mean real people / OTF'ers filmed? If so, only some test video so far. It took a long time to get the script just right. There were alot of CG scenes i knew were definately in. So the focus has been on completing those. But, we didnt want to film actors and dialogue until we had a definate final script.

We now have a final script distributed. Myself, Neo Hawkeye, Lupus, and Voyman are putting the final touches on preperations for filming.

It's vital we get the background green or blue screens right. Otherwise it's impossible to place actors into scenes. The film is 100% green/blue screened. If it doesnt work we can't use the video.

Episodes or Complete film?

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask everybody what they'd prefer. We can work to complete the whole film. Then release it to the OTF public. Or i can look at the script, and break it into three parts?

The script is not written with the intention of being a 3 parter. So there will be no cliff hangars! But it would allow OTF to see something earlier.

We can focus our efforts on part one. And maybe a trailer for part one prior to it.

Hopefully we'd be looking at 3 ten minute episodes. Then a final release of the complete film. Maybe with a little more CG included to form a special edition.

As things stand. Completing the film is a very long way off. I'm the only video FX guy. And all involved have busy real lives and cannot fully devote themselves to this project full time.

Let me know what you guys think. :)

I blame Star Wars : Revelations. :P It's raised the bar on these films. I watched it and cried. *LOL*

Lupus : Welcome back! :)

Matt : I agree about it being best for it to be released all in one go. But if it does come in parts, it will be due to a long production duration. I've got my fingers crossed that when the video starts coming my way things will fall into place and move along well.

For everyone in the grouper team. I'm hoping to have the All New whole film intro in my folder sometime over the weekend.

This will be as if you're sitting down to watch the film from the start, it'll have a THX segment, 20th century fox, and "a long time ago..." followed by the text crawl, and opening CG space scene. ( it's a right swine, cos when you watch it you want to watch the rest of the movie.. only trouble is it's not been made yet. :P )

The new opening scene replaces anything you've seen before. It's bigger, and better. It's a pan down to the Moon of the Corona system, then a sideways pan to the planet itself. With Stardestroyer flying into shot and a squadron of Ties buzzing around. It takes us right up to the first scene with actors involved, ( myself and Lupus on the Star Destroyer bridge. )

The other scene i've just finished is an Asteroid field scene.

Both CG scenes are alot more complicated than anything i've done so far. The opener is a composite of 8 CG elements, the Asteroid scene has 5, plus an explosion! Which i was really happy with.

All i have left to do is the music for the intro. Voyman will do the sound for this film, but i'm having to do the music for the intro myself, as the speed of the crawl depends on which of john williams scores i use. So, this will be the only sound stuff i do. Any other music you see on clips in grouper is purely for atmosphere, Voyman will do the final mix.

Are you a Sound Effects Peep?

Sound effects is another very important feature of this film. *coughs* That's a nice job for a volounteer! :P It's not as easy as it sounds. If you don't get the timing right on say, a Tie flying past, the whole effect is lost. If anybody would like to contribute to the film by becoming the sound effects peep. e-mail me. at anthmartian@gmail.com

I will say it probably needs somebody with a decent PC with a good amount of RAM and an ok processor, video needs to run smooth to get a perfect allignment.

I'd say it's a fun job though. :)

I thought that on this special day, i'd gather together some of the test images i have of various blue and green screen video tests, and have a practice run of some upcoming scenes for the film.

These are just practice runs for me, they help me alot in planning and working out stuff. They are not final film scenes, but, they do show the look of the film, and give you some idea how it's going to turn out.

So, here is the first look at real video stills in this movie project.

This is me :P Trying to look evil, as an Imperial Agent. The Light saber's glowing blade in this image was supplied by Kame, as will all the saber blades for this film.

This is Neo Hawkeye ( on the left btw :P ) As a hologram, translating a message from the mighty Jabba. Now you know who had the job prior to 3PO, and that other protocol droid before him. :D

This is....Me Again I'm afraid *L* As the Rodian Smuggler sidekick to Voyman's Smuggler Captain character.

All the images were shot against a blue screen. The sky was added into the planet scenes. Then the rocky planet environment. Myself and JP worked on the planet environment in our film. A mixture of images from, Tunisia ( mine and jadz's holiday snaps! ) , The Grand Canyon, and the Planet Mars were used to bring the world in our story to life. Finally the video of the actor was layed over the top, and the blue backing "keyed out" in Adobe After effects.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed these images, and the brief look into how things are proceeding. :)

You think that's making you laugh? Try mowing down a dozen or so clone troopers as General Grievous in Lego Star wars, accompanied by a madly flipping Yoda and see how much laughing it takes to wake the neighbours.

Now, how can I get the Sith and Jedi to stop fighting in the car park  :v

Goose : If we worked flat out 24/7 this would still take a while i'm afraid. This film depends on alot of members giving up their time. All of them have busy lifes.

So, as a result, it looks like it may be a while. Because one persons contribution does dictate a whole section of the film and we'll always be waiting on somebody's work to complete sections. If things go well and i get sent all the video it may snowball and get completed quicker.

I suppose i should'nt have teased you all with this thread when this project is some way off completion. But it was really the best way to generate interest and get members involved.

I'm hoping we'll get to the point very soon when we'll have a kind of production line for content being released. And everyone will see something.

I really don't want to do it that much. But we may release in 3 parts due to the lenth of the project. That and 2 trailers per part should see plenty of material put out here at OTF, and it may help out all those waiting to see something. :)

I understand that many individuals are giving up their time to work on this project and I appologise if my previous post sounded pushy or whatnot. *l*

Fact is that a large portion of this community are interested in the outcome of this project and it would be a great idea, like you said, to have a teaser trailer of some sorts. I'm sure no one will object to what was just said. I should have read all of the 17 or 18 pages instead of skimming through them, I'm sure I and many more would be pleased with the contribution of this.

Anyways, not to ramble on too much, great work guys and gals, hopefully soon we'll all get a chance to view this amazing piece of film and get excited (although not as much as the Star Wars films) once something is done. *l*

Great work peeps, keep it up, its a shame I only saw this thread two days ago, I'm sure it would have been good to work on this from the beginning, tata!

Goose : No worries :) It did'nt sound pushy at all. I understand we're combining a few things here that add up to members being keen and excited to see it. I know i am! :P I get down when i watch the latest test DVD's of the CGI scenes i've done. I want to watch the rest of the film, but i know its not there cos i have not done it. *L*

The problems we have are....This is the first time any of us have done this. Added to that we definately did not want to make some 5 minute long film without a plot. This is a real story, with character's and should be 30 minutes plus in running lenth. Problem is now, i've gone about as far as i can go without all the actors contributions in. Practically all the CGI without otf members in the scene is now done.

It would have been easy to knock out something quick, but we felt if we're going to do it, we'll have a go at last at making it something that entertains, and tells a story, and i'm trying really hard to deliver something that is cool and looks good. It won't be the best. But it will be the best we can do right now.

I don't see why projects like this can't be ongoing after this one is done. We're a fantastic community, members have alot of talent, and a passion for things like Trek and SW, the community has sci fi woven into it. It seems natural we actualy turn out some ourselves. :)

I'm hoping to begin work on a teaser trailer very soon, only thing that's held me back from releasing one so far is that the only finished scenes are 100% my work, and i'm keen that the trailer feature a few of the members involved. Matt has also produced something involving the film that the whole of the otf community will be able to see very soon. Hopefully we'll have a trailer out to accompany it. :)

Hi, me again.
I am almost ready to film the green screen tester. Only problem is, my camera is in Egypt :( And my hired help has decided to bog off down to uni :(

All that said, lines for first scene are re-learnt  :D yay!
Oh yeah, and I dont like my lightsaber. In fact is disliked it so much, that I threw it out my window, where it promptly got run over by a steady streamof cars. Its quite funny when you think about it  :v  :D

Quick update here,

My compy's down currentally, and I have a new one coming online tonight, enabling me to recover any lost files.  Both systems should be up and running tonight.

Just got paid :) and working closely with a friend to put together a greenscreen booth for filming.  Between him, myself, and another friend, we have four cameras.  ETA is 3-4 weeks for all the footage to be processed. (I figure three cameras on me, and 1 for BTS.

Other than that, all is good.

Cheers!

Update

To all in the production team : Hopefully i'll be posting some new clips in Grouper very soon. A whole new opening. Including crawling text, new pandown, and new first CG space scene. A scene in an asteroid field. And the very first scene featuring an actual OTF'er acting! I should finish Neo Hawkeye's scene tomorrow ( sunday ), well, the video anyway. Sound will come later. I've previewed it on DVD on my TV it looks good, just a little tweaking to be done before i'm happy to say it's finished.

Neo's scene has turned out great. It was a big task. 2 minutes of CG blended with real video. Featuring 8 space ships! 1 CG Jabba the Hutt! a CG ship cockpit, and a hologram effect on Neo himself.

Also some exciting news is that OTF'er Obi-To will be writing a score of music for parts of this film. And that will be combined with John Williams music.

Thanks heaps Obi-To :) and welcome to the team.

I really never imagined we had that kind of talent here. And never thought we'd have original music on this film. It just goes to show what a great community we have here. :)

Trailer News

I'll be making a huge effort to produce a trailer before my summer break ( End of July for 5 weeks. ). I'm leaving things to the last minute before i begin, as i would like to feature clips of as many people involved as possible, and feature as many members work as possible.

But, rest assured, there will be a trailer released next month! :)

Okay peeps!  Big news for me!

The blaster is done, and happens a coworker of mine has a garage which is lime green (for their production of Sin City - Sweet Sweet Revenge).  He also is a leatherworker, who will be making my holster.  We've agreed that I can use his garage and equipment, and I'm helping them on their production.

Okay, so I thought it was big news...

Indeed... That is big news!

I have news too. Tomorrow ( tuesday 21st of June ) I'll be travelling to a location to begin filming my scenes. Hopefully i'll get all of my first characters filming completed. I'm planning two more days of filming to get it all 100% done. Leaving just Green screen filming which can be done any time at home.

It's important i get this done, as i'm away for a large portion of the summer. It will be great to enter post production in ernest early autumn ( that's "fall" to half the world i guess. ) with all the video safely on my PC.

Also, i want it done before the school kids finish, i don't want to explain to families having a day out, why i'm running around a local beauty spot dressed as a green alien, or a Sith. :P
