So what did everyone think of the film adaptation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?
I've been looking forward to a decent adaptation ever since I first started reading the Chronicles back in 2nd grade, and this didn't disappoint. I thought that it was leaps and bounds beyond the old BBC version as well as the hideous animated version that used to be shown on the Disney channel from time to time.
The movie seemed to capture the visual style of Narnia quite well. It felt like I was stepping back into familiar territory, and everything was easy to recognize if you'd read the books.
I'd have to say that the one gripe I have is in the way Aslan was treated. Christian allegory aside, in the books he's portrayed as more or less omniscient and all-powerful, but in the film he seems more a lion who can talk and less a powerful magical being. Liam Neeson was spot on in the acting, but there was still something missing from the story overall where Aslan was concerned.
Anyways, enough of my rambling. Let's get a discussion going. What are your thoughts on the film?

Well, I never read the books. I always wanted to, though. (It was the same way with Lord of the Rings.) But I figured, when I heard that this movie was being released... why "spoil" it for myself by reading the book, then constantly comparing? I've been to LotR, HP, so many films where my movie-going companions ranted on and on about "this is gone", "he doesn't look like that", "where is this part?", "they added this..." ... and you know what, when I don't read the book BEFORE (but rather, after) seeing the movie, I usually adore the movie and can find no reason to criticize.
And so it was with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I adored this movie. I could not wait to see it, not only because I'm a fan of fantasy movies (plus the previews looked kickarse), nor because C.S. Lewis was a good friend of Tolkien's... but also because I knew about the Christian roots (which, as a Christian, I enjoyed. =P) ... anyway... I judged it beforehand slightly because of its rating (PG) .. so I expected a sugarcoated kiddy movie. And I judged it in the beginning... but I soon forgot I was even in a theatre. I really thought they captured Narnia's "essence" perfectly... and I felt like I was there, too. (Shush! The talking animals felt realistic. The mystical beings were realistic. The music was magical. The costumes were well-done. The story drew me in emotionally, mentally... it just all fell into plus just right.
And that being said.. man, I sure did love it. Duh! =P
But I agree with your opinion of Aslan.... he just seemed like a normal being... not even as powerful as a lion, I would say. He seemed revered, but I couldn't see why... they definitely should have given him some more... Aslanishness.
Yep.. going to see it a third time this week, by the way...
