I decided to start a thread specifically for the Watchmen movie.

Here's a link to the new trailer which was just released yesterday:
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/watchmen.html?show Video=1
You can also find posters and other production photos there.

If you don't know what the movie is about, here's a brief description (without going into spoiler territory):
"When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorshach begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying conclusion."

Watchmen will have a fairly large ensemble cast, which includes Billy Crudup, Malin Akerman, Carla Gugino, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie, and Matt Frewer, and that's just to name a few! Also, there will be many bit parts where people play historical figures, as the story depicts some real-life events, such as the Vietnam War, and shows how super heroes would change the outcome.

For those that don't know (and possibly didn't see this in the trailer), the Watchmen film is based on the Watchmen comic, which was written by Alan Moore and featuring art by Dave Gibbons. It was a 12-issue mini-series published in 1986 and 1987, and then finally collected as a graphic novel. It's the only graphic novel that has appeared on Time's list of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.

I'll try to post more news as it comes out, since I am extremely excited for this movie, both as a fan of the original comic and as a fan of comic book movies.

Watchmen will be released in theaters on March 6, 2009 (the day before my birthday!), as long as Fox's lawsuit against Warner Bros. fails.

No, the legal problem hasn't been sorted yet, unless it's been kept very quiet. So far, the movie is on track for March 6, 2009 still.

So, apparently the trial regarding the film rights has been pushed back two weeks. No word on whether the court has agreed to Fox's injunction that would keep Watchmen from theaters while the trial was going on.

Looks like the judge ruled in favor of Fox, so Fox could delay Watchmen, or get a huge chunk of cash. If Watchmen gets delayed, I will be pissed.

Watchmen could also never ever air period if FOX indeed has their way.

I doubt that it would never air because Fox could still gain money from it.

Even though we're all still waiting to see if the movie gets delayed/canceled, there's a new Japanese trailer for the movie. Very interesting...

I see the one brief snippit showing his win (towards the beginning of the trailer), but the rest that shows Nixon occurs much later in the story, when the cold war starts majorly heating up.

When it comes to the WB/Fox battle, it's over.
