Whatever happened to the MIDI Jukebox? Were there some practical reasons regarding it's removal?
I miss the jukebox. Can we resurrect it?

Only if it can be run by members (DJ's), otherwise just go to pandora or something.

You must not have been around for the original jukebox?
It was a page accessed from the bar interface, which contained a library of various songs in MIDI format. It did not apply/force the rest of the chat room to listen to whatever a particular individual was listening to.

I remember the jukebox having some random web radio station in it.

That is what they replaced the MIDI jukebox with. It was Jukebox version 2.Fail.

Well I'm on the Entertainment team, maybe I could get this turned into a project?

Everything! - Track down MIDIs which we are legally allowed to use. - Make a page, with some way of playing these MIDIs, that will pop up instead of /tenforward/radio/jackfm.html, that I can link to from the Bar (bar.pl)

I've got sort of a concept going.
Once the user presses play it opens a new window with the song playing in it.

I believe I have a finished product. (screenshot)
Now I just need to find lots of midi files.
Does anyone know a good place to look and any suggestions on what to get?

Or maybe we could create our own midis? Maybe get an OTF jingle going?

Sounds like a good OTF contest - make a MIDI OTF theme, get featured in the jukebox and accepted as the official theme of the outpost?
The old jukebox had a wide range. It had all the Trek themes, and various other movie themes, as well as some pop music from back in the early 2000's.
If you look far enough back in the archives, the original bar jukebox (which was done in an LCARS theme to match the rest of the bar interface) is probably in Maxwell's archives.

I would also suggest you find some javascript or something to act as a media player, to avoid the quicktime applet loading like it has in your screenshot.

We could have it a bit like the Grand Theft Auto Vice City radio stations... that is how I see it anyway. We could even record the DJ bits and add them in.

MIDI files cannot handle voice, I do believe.

OK, so I found a really cool player that has a playlist and lets you rearrange the order of the songs, BUT it doesn't support MIDI. I converted a couple MIDI's to mp3 to show you how the player works: jukebox
