Since I couldn't find a topic were I could freely tell my fellow players what I think about the BNT server here on the Outpost, and what suggestions I had for the admins, I decided to make a topic for that.

Let's begin with my thoughts on this BNT server so far.

I am an old-school BNT player. I used to play in the closing years of the old BNT here on the Outpost, the days when Plugboy was running the show.

I actually remember a couple of names from that time. And to me it is good news that a guy like XgermZ(it is a guy right?) has taken up the responsibility to run the game from now on. I am sure he'll do a great job.

But how about the game like it is running right now. First thing I noticed after a couple of days playing is that the game seems to be rather slow. Growth is slow compared to a few years ago. I used to have more than a couple of planets and a lvl 25 hull when I reached 10.000 turns. Right now it seems pretty hard to reach that point. I do seem to manage to catch up with the leaders, but unless the game goes on for several months there seems to be little else I can do but trail them.

The game is fun. It always has been and I am sure it always will be as long as the game stays in touch with its roots. So no undepletable ports, no multibillion colonist planets, and no horde of Xenobes. Like I said, I am sure the game is in good hands here at the Outpost.

So now to the part of suggestions:

Like i said, the game seems to be a bit slow. It might be a good idea to increase turn production just a little. Right now it seems I gain about 400 turns in 8 hours or so. Maybe increasy that with 25% and we'll get a more action packed game. Especially when we get more players to join the server.

Another thing I would like to see reinstalled is the option to do Sub Orbital Fighter Attacks, or SOFA's. Right now the only way to take over a planet is by doing many very risky Kamikaze attacks. With the increased costs we are facing this doesn't seem to be a profitable way to do things. So increase fighter costs a bit and enable SOFA's again might make the game a bit more challenging.

The IGB is a very important feature in this game. And so it should be. But it should be more important in the beginning of the game compared to the end-fase. So I sugest putting a maximum on it. make it so that you can't put more than a couple if trillion on it. That way a game leader can't store all his cash safely and wait tille the end. An added bonus is that you could have massive attackes in the last days of the game.

Well, that's it for now. Only a few basic suggestions. After I spend some more time thinking and looking at the game I might come up with some more. But for now I thank you all for reading this and wish you all the best.

There allready is a limit, its set to 100,000,000,000 allready ahead of ya there.

These have been disabled temporarily as they are massivly bugged and im having to rewite the stuff from scratch, will keep ya posted.

Fighters and torpedoes have had their cosst increased by 50%

As for the attacking planets without sofa, you will have to learn to art of the Kami

Posts cant be depleted
Colonist Limit is currentyl set at 100,000,000 (might double that, but it will NEVER get to the old levels it use to be, they where stupid)
Xenobes - these are more clever then the old ferengi bots otf use to have, and ive currently got 3 alive in the sever, might unleash a couple more in a few days, or not, its thors decision lol.

this is deliberate, even though the turns tick a lot faster, the game is slowed down, this encourages you to play it more, and think more tactically If someone can own the server with only playing 2 weeks, I cant see how we're meant to encourage people to join a server which has allready got a leader who cant be touched

Well they can be...for a short time. But I played at servers where the amound they could hold was so large that even trading at lvl 40 hull didn't bring the profit down a single credit. That totaly ruined trading. Glad that isn't the case here.

Now I can say only one thing...great job so far.

i am not sure this is the right place but:
idd like to see more sectors in the next run.
1k is a but small... no need for an ally to help scouting etc.
in 2 days you got enough turns to scout the entire galaxy.
( o boy love my crappy english, but at my internship the is no grammer check online...)

about the comment of sofa's
in higher levels the upgrading of your computer will be way to expensive to kami
a fighter kosts 75 at level 25 you can carry 2525116.829
fighters.??? .829 ooo crappy excel
so 75*2525116.829=189383762 is what it costs to put 1x time fighters on the plannet.
the same goes for u kami, but than 16777216000 is added to upgrade you comp... thats about 100x the defender
but i think everybody knew that and sofa will be here in the bright future.

As a security system, the players captain name is taken from the otf db, for the moment you cant change this, however for the next version you will be able to change this.

To change your captains name in game will be

1: Go to here

2: Enter your username and password

3: Then on the drop down menu you need to go to manage screen-name

4: Then enter your new name, which you wish to appear in the game.

You can do that now if you want ready for next round, when ill have sorted out that piece of code.

However for the present round, your Name wont get changed.

1: I made the round small deliberatly as i wasnt sure how many players was going to join, and this was always going to be a short round anyway

3: Yeah prices are a little unusual, but done deliberatly to slow down the game. as another price penalty, no one noticed that the price of components is also 50% more expensive to account for this

50% more as before, than it increased by 50% so thats 150%.
now its 225 or something? didn't notice that, did notice lvl 13 enganes doesn't get you everywhere in 1 turn

what i mean is standard multiplier price for components is 1000 credits, we increased it to 1500 credits (i.e. 50% more) and the same with torps and figs i.e. 50 is standard in we increased itt to 75

Suddenly thought of something else that could use a little attention.

The ranking system.

Right now a decent player gets his score to 100.000 with no real efford. At that point he already passed 12 of the ranks. So I would sugest making the lower ranks more spread out, and the higher ranks even further...

So it looks like this:

I know it is simple...but adding 00 to the end doesn't really cut it.
What we really need is to alter the spread of the rankings. Like I did with the list I posted, but than even better.

First pick and expected end score. If we let it run into the 500.000.000 I think we have gone to far. So Let's pick 250.000.000 as a final score. Now all we need to do is start at 0 and end at 250.000.000. The end needs to be more spaced, because when your bank grows larger, your score rises faster. So the From rank 30 to rank 29 might be 150 million? Just to make the top rank real special. Until that you get promotions faster

so it looks like this:

well for the "length" of the round we're going to be hosting, we can ""project"" a winning score around 10,000,000,000. so maybe

well, its hard to predict, classic bnt has a max score of 2.7 billion, otf bnt its significantly higher, and otf bnt when it ran for its "best round" 6 players got over 1 billion at the end, and im trying to think along the lines of keeping a goal/aim for everyone.

The best rounds of BNT on the Outpost had over 400 players, of which more than 50 where actually active in the end...it's gonna take a lot of effort to reach those goals once more.

I really hope we will reach these numbers, but it will be fun none the less.
Go ahead and make the new ranking list available in the new otf-bnt I would say.

A thought had in regards to BNT and people going on Vacation, maybe have some sort of Leave feature that require a person to stay on leave for a certain length or time or perhaps even charge them in-game to put their planets and ship in leave mode that way the leave function isn't taken advantage of as well.

This came to me this weekend as i'm going out of town and won't be able to access BNT for rest the day.

If you would do so there should be at least a different intrest and production rate. Otherwise people could just take 3 weeks of and watch their wealth grow without risk.

Maybe this isn't interesting to low ranking players, but the high rankers could very well use this to their own benefit.

Just a warning...I am sure David thought of this as well.

With otf bnt, they had a "freeze" player option. no planets monies etc grew, which is all good, however its a game nethertheless, i remember when i use to have to have 2/3 days off from the net and to come back and discover half my empire crushed is disheartening, thisis why we make allies to look after our territories while we're absent.

As for this round/game there wont be any implementation of any idea, so you best have you allies take good care of your planets while your absent

maybe that we you can have alliance members upgrade your defenses when you are gone.

I dont think so, however since this is a "feature" idea and not a bug fix etc i cant implement this is the middle of the round as it would be unfair to everyone. OTF bnt does have this option, so I possibly wont be adding this feature to "this" version anyway XD
