I do like it. I mean the colour and design etc. But why are we getting rid of the Public Update Boards? I mean, was there really a need, it was simple, fast and effective, won't people get bogged down by all of this?

Just adding my piece.

But it is nice very nice, *Is dazzed*

personally I haven't used boards like this for more than 6 months or so, in the beginning I thought they were overwhelming and i couldn't sort which posts were relevant to me, to the ones that weren't. I didn't take me long to adjust though and I like this way of communicating, very very much now. Give it some time, you'll see  :)

Hey,

Believe it or not, simplicity is the idea behind the concept. Ikonboard is a large and powerful system. However, we've used its customizability to slim it down as much as possible. Both the Gossip Board and Public Board will now be part of one system. Any off-site forums that are being used by Departments can be abandoned for an OTF Forums version.

The Public Board gets used a lot these days. So we wanted a system where posts would stay up for a long time. We also decided that having both a public message board and forums system would constitute a project conflict.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

I agree with Havoc, to a point. For me, all I had to do was click over to the Public Updates, check for new messages, and keep on going. Now, if I want to check for new messages, I have to enter the forum, go into certain areas, and then look around.

HOWEVER!

With the Public Updates, your message was only available for a limited time, sometimes only for a day or two. With this new feature, we have a bigger opportunity to, first, announce whatever business we need to make public, but also, we can start discussions on varying topics that don't require us to be in the chat room.

It's a much larger world now, and with this forum, we can make it even larger.

I think it's great.

Skull - isn't that some people are RDF cadets and others are squadron leaders? ;)

BDUS Herridon, out.

Hiya all! :)

Wow, this forum is just like the Swedish Star Trek forum at www.stenterprise.nu just different colors :) I'm gonna visit this forum often, if many people come here *g*

Just a suggestion though: on the Swedish Star Trek forum we have a profile with avatar and stuff, which are shown in our posts. I'd like to have that here as well, but I guess it's too much effort...? And we already have our dossiers, I know. I mean I'd like to have an avatar setting in the forums as well!

Janeway out!
