I know a forum thread was done about this already. Basically, I wanted to start a new thread to let everyone know what's up, and to give them a place to sign up and whatnot.
What is a voice chat night?
Members from the chat room get together on Yahoo Instant Messenger, using microphones, to speak to each other in real-time.
Who can join?
Anyone from the Outpost can join so long as they follow the rules.
What are the rules?
- You must have Yahoo Instant Messenger.
- You must have a microphone or have speakers that will enable you to hear.
- You must be fairly respectful to everyone there. Wisecracks are allowed of course, but they have to be fairly tasteful.
- Finally, you must, and I stress this, you must have a sense of humor and like having fun!
*grins* Got that down so far?
There is no set schedule for when we have voice chats or for how long they go. We're usually really random about how we do it all. Usually I'll log onto Yahoo Messenger of an evening to check out who is online. If I see a few people, then I go ahead and get something started.
So, if you'd like, you can add me to your Yahoo list. My ID is rag451, same as my username here. Just make sure that when you make your request to add me, you type who you are!
And that's it, so far as I know right now! If anyone has questions, just post 'em here. Lzr, Soran, Kaela, or about anyone else who has been to a voice chat will know what to say. Or I might reply. :-P

I just have to emphasize what a blast this was.. the personalities involved are dynamic. It puts everyone's thought processes in perspective to you. You find out who's funny, who's sweet, who's laid back...who's moody.  And who's more annoying than you might think.  Anywho, I just listened in a few nights ago. Before entering the voice chat, I didn't know most of its participants very well and I thought a few of them to be cold, seriousish people. Whoa, was I wrong...they were all awesome.
It's rather pleasant, I very much encourage people to download Yahoo messenger JUST for this. *eg*

I have a firewall, so I cannot do voice conferences on MSN. What I have found on MSN, also, is that you can only have a limited number of people in; whereas, so far, we have yet to reach a limit of the people in a voice conference on Yahoo.
Anth was right in what he said about NetMeeting. While NetMeeting would be up to the challenge of hosting one of our voice chat nights, it would be a long and arduous ordeal to find out each others IP addresses, then dial them, and get everyone hooked up. Yahoo is much more realistic and a lot easier to access than any other messenger for voice chat capabilities.

Okay that would be interesting but ... is Yahoo also prohibited by firewalls? Meaning that if you have a firewall, you can't do voice chats on Yahoo, just like with MSN... though there is a program you can install, ENat for MSN Messenger, which allows voice communicating even through firewalls. Maybe I'll download Yahoo and test out my microphone someday... at least I can do sound recordings but I dunno if I dare I mean do people really want to hear my non-perfect English and American accent *looks@Timmy-Wan*
