The Star Trek franchise lost a longtime member of the production team this weekend.
Enterprise first assistant director Jerry Fleck reportedly died in his sleep, according to StarTrek.com. He was 54.
Fleck worked on three Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise, as well as the feature films Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek Insurrection. His other credits included Edward Scissorhands and the MacGyver television series.
The first assistant director is a crucial position on any film or television show. The 1st AD's duties include keeping the production on schedule and managing the shoot so the director is able to concentrate on working with the actors.
Production on the latest Enterprise episode, which was proceeding under the direction of Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris), was halted Monday out of respect for Fleck's passing.
