The normal stuff?
You mean the kinda curry they can't put on plastic plates since they would dissolve?

Hmm

I love curry, I love curry sauce on Chips!  I love being in Derby and hitting all the Indian restaurants there.

I love Thai curry as well, different flavour to the Indian kind.

Oh curry from Nepal is wonderful as well, and now down in Kent there are quite a few opened by ex Guhrkas.

Alas no curry in China:(

When they make it at hotels they add really wierd stuff to it!

It's sad!

Hong

PS Lets have a day celebrating Curry!

Jayneway,

I love curry and always opt for the hotter options. I have no problem eating a Vindaloo, but a Phall? Ouch, I ate one once for a bet and I was in agony *l* You eat them out of choice? I'm impressed, although I pity your poor stomach lining having to cope with an assult like that.

You think curry's hot? You should have tried the gumbo my sister whipped up once *and once only* it could have taken the the metal off your fork, and would have given the surface of venus a run for its money :?

Gumbo scares me.

My brother likes vindaloo - he always asks for it extra hot.  personally I think he has no taste buds.

Mmmmm.. A Curry thread!!..

I have a suggestion for DV..  MAKE Curry.. and simply exclude, that to which you are alergic..

I miss my Indian resteraunts in the UK, I have one here in town, but there's no Phal here.. =(..  Just a mild attempt at a vindaloo..

I often resort now to making my own curry, spiced the way I see fit.. *g*

Curry Rules!!

Hmm

Today I think I will make a curry, it won't be the best as I lack the correct spices, but it will be okay.

I will pour the whole thing into a weiger nan bread, which will have to do for Indian Nan's.

yum Yum

*JUAD*

There is an Indian restuarant in Xian and tomorrow I am going to go and eat there, and take a couple of Chinese friends along with me for the experience :D

I have been told that it is pretty good, so I will let you all know just how good or bad it is when I get on-line after eating there.

There used to be one in Xian 5 years ago but it closed down, so I am hoping that this one won't.

I had my first attempt at a hand-made Thai Green Curry the other day. Not too bad but I overdid the green chillis. And I think I'll leave out the fish sauce next time, or certainly use less.

Hmm,

The place in Xian was great, it was not a poor imitation of curry but really good stuff.

My Chinese freinds loved it!

The only thing I didn't like so much was the nan bread, it was a bit thin!

Thin naan? I like chapatis, but they're a different thing . . .naans should be big and well-risen and shaped roughly like a bicycle seat!

Nopes

Not chaaptis,  they were meant to be Nan, they were the right shape and they were on the menu as Nan.

They just weren't thick enough.

After a break of two years it's time to bump this thread, after Hong reminded me of it . . .

I recently bought an excellent cook book, in which the author, the head of the Curry Club in the UK, has gathered together recipes from curry houses all over the world. The idea is to allow the cook at home to recreate dishes they enjoy eating when they go out.

My favourite dish so far is a sort of a stir fry called 'chilli chicken' or 'chicken pili pili'. Easy to make. It contains chicken (obviously), chilli peppers (to taste), capsicum (I use a yellow one and a red one, for the colour and taste, I find green a little blander), tomatoes (fresh, chopped), coriander (again, fresh . . . it;s the only way to enjoy coriander) , onion, ginger, garlic, white cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric and curry powder (you can make your own but seeing as I share a kitchen currently I cheat and buy a ready made one).

I make it in a big wok, with a good quality vegetable oil (olive oil isn't recommended for this recipe as the taste is wrong). Takes about 20 minutes to cook, plus of course the prep time in chopping all that stuff up. While you're cooking it you get the most wonderful aromas and the colour! Garish and vibrant, thanks to the turmeric, mainly. You can easily adjust the heat to taste by lessening or incrreasing the amount of chillis. Wonderful dish.

Going to have a crack at that most british of curries, 'chicken tikka massala' this weekend. Will let you know how I get on, if i'm still alive after ;)
