The multiplayer support for the Microprose game BOTF has now completely disappeared from the Zone, so I can't find anyone to play this Star Trek classic game with anymore.
Therefore, I was wondering, are there more Outpost10F members who own this game, and would be willing to play over IP against me from time to time?
If you are interested, please reply in this thread, or contact me through my personal info

I own the game, but I never have played it over the internet before. The last game I did that with was Command & Conquer: Red Alert, sometime before 1998.

You haven't really played BOTF unless you played it against a human
I played it with five peeps a few times -- really exciting games. The Diplomacy option is only then really useful.

LZr -- it is a strategy game, where you play as either the Federation, Klingon Empire, Cardassian Union, Romulan Star Empire, or Ferengi.
If you know Masters of Orion: BOTF is like a Star Trek version of MOO2.
You have to enlarge your empire slowly, by colonizing planets, trading with (and trying to conquer or make members through treaties) minor races such as the Vulcans, Andorians, Takarians, etc.
It is set in the TNG series, before First Contact. You basically start with simple warp, and can end with Galaxy Star Cruisers.
A big part of the game is diplomacy and espionage, and how you deal with the other empires in general: you can try and make treaties, fight wars, trade, etc.
If you can find a copy somewhere, try and pick it up -- it is still a good game.

*s* Well, I own the game, but I have never really gotten INTO it. Never played online either. Basically I guess you could say I stink at it. Anyhow, if yer still in for a game, and are willing to lower yerself to my level (that of the average 5 year old, I'd say) I'd be willing to give it a go.

Tom -- damn, that's a shame...
Wedge (and anyone else): if you ever want to play, just grab my IM info from my OTF dossier, and we can schedule a game. I usually have time during the weekends, or (my) evenings (I'm in CET, that's GMT+1).

Following a botched attempt to play this the other night...
Make sure you have BotF version 1.02 -- earlier versions are not only unstable, but also incompatible!
If you need the patch, get it at the BotF Federation: http://members.aon.at/zelli/others.htm
You'll want the official patch 1.02, or, if running XP, the fan-made XP patch. You only need the tactical update patch if your BotF keeps crashing.
The site also offers mods, and other unofficial patches -- but be wary of these. Only the mods listed as 'multiplayer compatible' will work in a multiplayer game. This includes the Texture pack, Phaser Mod, Torpedo Mod, and (my fave) the Hades 3D patch.

Well, I think I got the patch working. But I had to get it from here http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/~birthofthefederation/patches.htm. If you have any difficulty try that site, theres a combination of patches you can that are just as effective to use if the XP one doesn't work.
