Okay peeps.  It's been talked about, the idea's been toyed with, and now I'm calling it out.

Anth,

I know you've mentioned you had an idea for a script, well I'm here to pledge my support, and I'm sure others will as well.  Need ideas for a script, I have some.  Need someone to play the bad guy, you have a volunteer (who has the equipment, but no acting skills).  Need someone to have their computer spend hours rendering a cgi scene, I've on average 15 hours of unused computer time per day.

I pledge my support to the creation of this movie, and call on others to do the same.

What say you Anth?

*kicks the lock that was on this forum to the side* ( :) Thanks Anth!;) )

Well peeps, thie idea's finally coming to be.  OTF members from both sides of the pond are teaming up to create the first ever (I think) live action OTF Fan Film!

I'm not going to say much about the movie, but scripts have been drafted and one has been chosen.  Anth is due to release a teaser poster within a week or so.

I've chosen not to post the content of any of the emails between Anth and I, untill we both agree to make this an open source project.

If you want to get involved, contact either Anth or I.  We could allways use more help.

Anyways, a title has ben chosen "Star Wars: Dark Resurrection".  I'll leave it to your minds to keep you busy for now...

Danny.

Thanks, an offer of help is greatly appreciated. :)

Over the next day or so we should have a list of scene breakdowns and later on story boards. So, would you like to work on a CGI scene for the film? There is no time frame here. It will be more a case of getting it as good as you can rather than rushing it out.

And we're learning too. We've just turned out a handful of stuff in every bit of software we're going to need to complete the film. We're learning as we go along.

The software we are producing the CGI scenes in is "Blender" we've gone for that because it's a good piece of software, and it's also free. Which of course means anybody that wants to get involved can, nobody is ruled out because of financial resources. It can be downloaded at http://www.blender.com

We've got all the 3D models we need for the production. For the Blender software. Although i might have to do some stuff in 3D Studio Max. The same may be true of Maya.

So, if you would like to produce a CGI scene in Blender we would send you some of the elements for it that we need for consistancy in the movie, and you could do the rest? We've got links to some easy to follow tutorials for Blender too. So no worries there. :)

Here's a "Teaser" poster i made for the film. Just an early one with a logo cos no footage exists to make any other type of poster yet, so far anyway. :D

Okay, here's an update so far.

Here's a scene-by-scene breakdown by Anth.  Coming soon will be a shot-by-shot storyboard by me.

===

Star Wars : Dark Resurrection

Scene break down.

A to Z logo!

Opening Crawl. ( in production, but not finished. ) whole opening should be around 2 minutes.

scenes.

1. ( open space ) Imperial Shuttle fly's towards camera. And then away from camera. To reveal view of the planetary system it's heading for.

breakdown.

have superb high res star fields for the movie.
have 3D model of Imperial Shuttle.
Need to make a selection for what the planetary system looks like and put together matte paintings in photoshop.

2. Shuttle interior. Holo message from Palpatine instructing Dark Agent of his mission on the planet.

breakdown.

Have seen a palpatine 3D model. But favour an actor for this role.
Blue/green screen actors.
blue/green screen view from shuttle window.
Holo effect emperor ( have tutorials on this effect.)

3.Shuttle approach to planet, and landing.

breakdown.

CGI of shuttle flying nearer planet.
CGI with landscape of planet underneath. ( there are great high res images from Mars that we can use as matte paintings from the European mars space craft. Some with 3D perspective.).
I have digital pictures of my trip to Tunisia for the matte paintings of the planets surface where the shuttle lands, Actualy where Star Wars was filmed. We could merge these with pictures of Mars to create the desolate planet scape.

4.Clone Wars weapons facility external view.

CGI model of base ( i have some models.)  screenshots blended with our planetscape matte paintings.

blue/green ( keyed ) screen of actor entering base.

5.Internal shots of facility.

CGI model screen shots of interior with keyed actors.

6. Asteroid swarm and impact.(This scene could be cut, and the story re-wrote to accomadate it. maybe replaced with a explosion if it proves to hard.)

CGI asteroid scenes. floating in space. Heading for planet. hitting building. ( this is the worst part of the whole movie! production wise! help! )

7. Spirit entering Droid scene.

Effect simular to return of the Jedi finale with the jedi spirits. Blue outline etc.

Droid costume needed. Needs work this!
keyed scene where spirit walks towards actor in droid costume.

8. Smugglers arrival.

CGI ship approaching planet.
Hologram of a Hutt? Or message to the smugglers of their task on planet.
CGI ship interior snapshot. keyed actors.

9. Smugglers landing.

CGI ship landing, blended with matte paintings of planet scape.

10. Smugglers entering base.

same set up as dark Agent entering.

11. Smugglers enter holo chamber.

Animated section of matte painting for a door sliding upwards to reveal a keyed in "real" location shot. Forest probably?

12. Battle in the Forest? Inside the Holo training Chamber.

Real location shoot, involving props. Light sabers, Blasters.

Fight choreography and plot line not yet planned.

Rotoscoping of light sabers and blasters.

This will make up the bulk of the film.

12. The Power shutdown.

Real location vanishes. leaving a matte painting of a Star trek like room with holo matrix.

This should happen after one smuggler has been killed, and the other is about to be killed.

Last smuggler radio's ship for a report on whats happened. His R2 unit scans and reports back, uploads results to his hand held communication device.

we see a monitor in close up explaing the reasons. ( as told to you in my e-mail.)

Props:
hand held device.
R2 unit keyed into ship interior. ( i have one, not full size, but big, could be used, or we could go CGI.)

effects:
photoshoped monitor screen. (I've had alot of luck with animations put together in premiere.)

13. Finale.

Not sure on this? he could just walk away.
fly off in his ship.
Or if we feel confident, have a battle with some back up imperial forces, and jump to hyperspace. This would be best, but we may take on to much with this.I can see the jump and then the end titles jumping in.

More to come later.

*Reads my own list...* Yikes! :P

Well...i finished the opening crawl tonight! It was tricky. Because i was using Adobe After Effects for the very first time with this project.

But, it looks good. :) And i'm very pleased. The words may change before it's actualy edited into the film. But i've got the project saved so that'll be no problem later on down the line. I've used the right fonts, the right colour yellow. And it scrolls nicely and rolls into the distance. It really does look like a real Star Wars movie! :)

Well, work proceeds on the visual storyboards, but t's been decided not to post them here, so as the anticipation will build.

And work has begun on the music storyboard, and I'm gonna put together a a/v storyboard animation so I can see the scenes, and hear the music at the same time.

Here's some screenshots from early animated CGI scenes in the film. The whole intro ( long time ago.., SW logo, and crawl ) and pan down to the planet featured in the film is complete now. And looks great on DVD! As do the scenes below.

It's still very early days in production. And we're going about making the film a very different way to those guys at Lucas Film *L* They do the special effects last, we're doing them first, while we're planning filming, and organising props, and costumes etc.

If you do want to get involved there's many ways to do so. And we would like it very much if any OTF members could join in. :)

If you don't fancy computer animating and special effects work there's still art work for scene backdrops, or poster art, DVD cover art, or even a website? There may even be a chance to appear in the film or be a voice actor. As you can imagine this film is a big undertaking, and there's many tasks that need to be addressed. And we'd be happy to have as many OTF member names on the end credits in blue as the Star wars theme plays as we possibly can! *L*

We've got some great news on the film. Fellow OTF'er Blood Hawk is keen to join the cast! And it looks like he'll be able to take part. :) ( I knew he was the guy for us when i saw his SW figures!!! Wow! And looks like he's got a vinyl caped Jawa in there?! Anybody who collects SW figures is way up on my likeable list :P )

If you've not seen his OTF doss here's his pic....

Hopefully if all goes well with the technical elements he'll be able to play a prominent roll in the film with his awesome Stormtrooper armour.

If you're reading Blood Hawk... welcome onboard!

*looks at Queen*...."that's no space station...that's a Moon!?" :?

Here's some more screenshots from the "making of" Star Wars : Dark Resurrection.

The images shown make up a set of scenes which open the film. In all it will be about  1:30 minutes of CGI. Which will set up the opening of the story. The CGI will be broken up with a Blue screened in actor flying the shuttle.

Above are two images of the same scene. The blue screened version, and the final video screenshot.

Welcome onboard JP. :)

JP has joined the team! Which is fantastic news. As it means we now have 3 production staff, 3 actors, and one cameragirl, Jadzia. :P . JP will be working on backgrounds for scenes. And anything else he likes in his photoshop *L*

Maybe, if he's very lucky he can do some light saber scenes in photoshop. :P They are going to be so much fun! at nearly 30 frames per second on the film, that makes a scene of just a few seconds require only a few hundred light saber blades added in photoshop. :D yikes!

JP: If you can't play the video file on the web space, let me know. It's a MPEG 2 file. I know many people can't play those. I'll be uploading in the next day or so, so if there's problems with viewing, i'll make them windows media.

Bah! i noticed those screenshot links are duff! I'll fix in the next day or so. *L*

Remeber, if you want to make some Sci FI for a change, rather than watching or reading it. All are welcome to join the team. :)

Voy : Sounds good! Ive not done alot of CGI this week. And i'm planning to have a break over christmas too, it's been quite an intense start to the film, what with learning about 4 pieces of software from scratch so far.

Okay... You've heard me say anybody can help, and after chatting in CCC last night it was great that so many did show an interest. So i thought if i put a list of the kinds of ways members can help then some that were maybe thinking about it could glance through and decide how. This list does not cover everything, but it demonstrates that you don't have to be a special effects expert to help..none of us are anyway! :P

The list.....

1. Photoshop guys - CGI background scenes, for scenic planet shots, and back drops for actors to be blue/green screened against.)

2. CGI animators - We're using "Blender" A free piece of software available to download. Also free 3D models for it. We also have links to many easy to follow tutorials if anybody fancies putting together a CGI scene or part of one.

3. Sound effects - Gathering sound effects, and or changing them to suit the scenes.

4. Voice actor's - Can you do a Palpatine voice? Or a Hutt language? Greedo/Rodian or Jabba? Basicaly, make it up as you go along..we'll add subtitles that make sense! *L*  If so, and you would like to audition, send us a sound file.

5. Actor/Actress - You must have access to a decent video camera, and be able to rig up a good Blue or Green screen to act against. You can act at home, indoors, no travelling. We have the software to add you to the film wherever you are. We'll then be able to place you in the movie. More parts may come up later, as the script is finalised. But at the moment we need just one more actor. And that role is a representative of Jabba. A little like Bib Fortuna. You can wear whatever you like that fits the film. ( No Limp Bizkit hoodies or anything, obviously! ) And the action will be appearing in the film as a Holo message played on a smugglers ship ( which at the moment is called "The Queen Demon" :P ).

6. Design Artists - For logo's, DVD cover art, Poster art, and to appear on trailers, and the film intro.

7. Web site - It would be great to have a web site for the film. We probably have enough content to begin, in the form of captured screenshots. Anybody who would like to build a site would be sent regular update info from all working on the film, aswell as jpegs of their work. The site would offer up info and news on the films progress, and be a preview/making of type thing.

Everybody who works on the film will of course get full credit in the end titles. And all the actors / production team will get a copy of the DVD at the end of it all. Being able to see the film in full widescreen resolution, rather than the shrunk down online files.

As you can read, there's many things anybody could tackle. And there will be no heavy work load. This whole project WILL be fun to work on. No timetables, or heavy deadlines. We're going to work our way through this, and it will take as long as it takes, trailer releases and possibly episode releases should help see a steady flow of material released once we get to a certain point in production. Everybody involved will play a very important role. And at the end i'm sure we'll all be proud of what we've done ( I'm sure we can turn out something even better than George Lucas....You have seen the SW Holiday Special right!? ) . All of us have probably spent our lives watching and enjoying Sci Fi. Here's our chance to make our own! And having seen some of the completed scenes on DVD it's looking very cool so far! :)

E-mail me if you wish to contribute in any way. Large or small offers of help, it doesnt matter.

Hi,

An update from me. :)

Things are looking very good over the last week. I've been into CCC a fair bit lately. ( a fair bit for me anyway *LOL* ) And it's been great to see the interest in the film while chatting.

As you know if you read this production forum, JP is now a full member of the team, he's busy on creating a whole planet's environment in photoshop. And now CL4 NeoHawkeye has joined and offered his services as a cameraman on the location shooting we'll be doing next year here in the UK. So i have 2 camera peeps this end now! Neo and Jadzia.

Good news too on the CGI effects front of the movie. I'm learning a new bit of software called "3D Studio Max" It's high end software. And was used to produce the Matrix movies film effects. After hitting a brick wall on it for months i'm now making some kind of progress. And although all the Space and ship animation will be done on the "Blender" software, 3d S Max is vital for other film elements we'll need.

3DS Max is a huge leap forward for the film. And expands the scope of the project immensely. All animations involving characters, buildings, and environments will be done in 3DS Max.

The new animation software allows us to feature some familiar characters in the film. Like this one. :)

The guy above has only begun acting on the film today. *L* But he's coming on well. And i'm confident he'll appear in a small role. Actualy the actor we're seeking among the OTF membership will be in the same scene along with 3d animations Boba Fett and the Jabba model seen here.

I spent some time today doing an effects test. This is not a final scene from the film. But was just meant as a demonstrator for two effect scenes, crucial to the plot.

In the film an actor will play Palaptine. That's not been filmed yet. So i made a substitute stand in, a 3D model of the Emperor. And this is how it went.....

Palpatine's 3D model is positioned and given a blue screen background.

A 3D model of the Emperors throne room was used here to add a background.

Finally. The image was put into Adobe after effects, to alter opacity on a blue background. Some interference lines were animated and rolled up and down. And lastly i burned it to DVD, played on my TV and recorded on my video camera to add yet more fuzzy stuff, lines, and interference!

I'm happy with the overall look, although i'll be trying out more camera zoom, or less zoom, and tweaking the blue a little for the final look. But we're now ready for the real thing early next year. The whole hologram will be placed inside a scene of the film where an actor will view it inside his ship.

Voyman...you could say wow! :P Cos it's you who'll be taking the place of the CGI model Palpatine in the real scene.*L*

I just dropped into this thread to say i just got an e-mail from JP with some images attached for the film. He's making the backdrops / matte paintings, for the scenes on the planet where our story is set.

And not wanting to copy Voyman..but Wow! That's all i can say. JP has done a fantastic job already. And to add even more to the project has offered to produce a website for the film. :)

Well done JP. You've brought the world in our film to life. And made my imagination leap now and helped the next phase of production enormously.

I won't post the images yet, i thought maybe JP would want to if he adds here later.

Yep, as JP says. I took the pictures on holiday in Tunisia, touring the Star Wars locations.

And he's kind of done what they did to build the Pod Racer circuit in Phantom Menace, they used photography of Tunisia to build up landscapes on a computer. Although its "photo real" The locations don't actualy exist. They're tailored for our needs from many sources, and blended into a single scene. :)

I was amazed tonight, i'm putting together another edit of the clips we have so far. This will be the most complete run through yet. With music added for atmosphere, not a final mix tho, and sound effects. When all the scenes are loaded into the video editer, we have 4 minutes and 30 secs of film in the can! And that's pure CGI work, and nothing else. :?

I dunno what makes it happen, but seeing the CGI scenes of the Imperial fleet with John Williams Imperail March score over it just brings that extra magic to it.

For those working on the project, that'll be available to download soon. :)

DeBoe : We do need actors / voice actors. So if you're interested, e-mail me and we'll see what we can sort out. Maybe we can arrange for you to send a sound file of your voice reading a part from any movie you like, and i can see what might suit you best? :)

And, well...John Williams is our John Williams. *LOL* :P

Plus we'll also be using some Star Wars computer game music. Stuff that's not too old, but still has a SW feel and atmosphere. I felt that if you remove John Williams score, you'll rip out a large portion of what we all think of as SW. :)

But if we were making an original sci fi film, i would jump at the chance of an original score for it, it would be awesome.
