After 37 weeks the PSP has finally beaten the DS in weekly sales in Japan.  The sales numbers are 133,000 units for the PSP and the DS at 91,000.  This is down somewhat on recent DS sales which peaked at just under 600,000 units.

This is because there is a shortage of DS's in Japan which Nintendo are doing their best to restock.  DS games are still doing their job though as Neo's post indicates.

As for the Xbox 360, this week it supposedly only sold 7,500 units in Japan.  Hopefully I'll find some worldwide figures that can provide a better picture.

The way you play the game will also affect the out come of the game much like shadow the hedgehog. The game is being called Splinter Cell Double Agent and it's coming out on all consles later this year.

A Star Trek game called Star Trek : Legacy.  It is being developed by Mad Doc software who also made Star Trek : Armada 2.  It will be an action strategy hybrid that will span the trek timeline from the Enterprise series up to Voyager.

The game is set for a release this September on the PC and Xbox 360.  Will provide more info as I find it.

No High Def TV picture for the Nintendo Revelution????? :?

Not that i'll probably get around to owning a HD TV before the next round of consoles after this batch is out, but spare a thought for the millions who will have them, and are in the market for a new console to show of their TV's capability.

If i was in the market for a new console i would be holding out for the new Nintendo over everything else ( provided i liked the controller that is! ). But, if i had a HDTV i certainly would not. When you think the XBOX 360 and PS3 will have a TV picture 6 times better than Nintendo. What are they thinking?

When people walk into a electronics store and see the latest wave of consoles hooked up to new HDTV's the quality will be there for everyone to see. There wont be any hiding place.

Well mainly the rich kids will have HDTV's anyway so they will probably buy the PS3 just to show off (and because they can afford it).  Personally I don't have an HDTV either nor do I know anyone who does.  Also, not putting in HD capability means they can keep the cost of the console down and reduce the power needed to make games look as good as they would need for HD.  Besides anth, you stated before that graphics aren't everything.

Anyway the main reason I posted, some gaming news.

Nintendo have finally released the details for the redesigned DS.  Details available at http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/26/nintendo_announces_ds_lite/

Basically the unit is a bit smaller at 133 x 73.9 x 21.5 with a few cosmetic changes too.  All in all it looks nice and is probably for a closer look to the Revolution.

Graphics are not everything, no. Not to me at least, but i feel they will be for a very large majority of the spending public, which you've pointed out before, kids today will settle for looks over content. I'm pretty sure most who have invested in High Def would want their console to look awesome.

You'd be a brave man to state that HDTV will stay in the realm of the rich for the life time of this console. I do feel that it will effect sales somewhat.

Over 40% of TV's sold in the USA are HDTV. They predict that figure to be over 70% by 2009. I very much doubt that the next Nintendo console will leave out HDTV.

Anyway, i'll still buy the Revolution over anything else, if i buy a new generation console that is. All round, from what i hear, it seems the best for my interests. HDTV is not an issue for me, yet. I just feel that Nintendo may get nervous as HD drops in price rapidly as predicted.

the 360 looks great, i like my old X-Box alot, but i struggle to find games on there for me and Jadzia to play together. Plus its way too expensive!

the PS3 will be good i'm sure, but i don't want to spend all day wading through an inferior mountain of games to find a good one. What do Sony do? Give out a games licenses to every other person in the phone book? :P

Xbox Car:

Nissan North America Inc. and Microsoft® seems to have decided to make a car with and integrated Xbox 360 built in...obviusly you cant play it while driving you need to be parked...sound is through the cars stereo system. it looks like the system can only play one game so far(Built in)... Project Gotham Racing® 3 if its like the other PGR games it should be a blast...and i almost forgot to mention that it is played using the cars steering wheel and pedels as the controller...the car dosnt look half bad either though its no Ferrari or anything(sorry)...i would like to see a car like that playing GTA or something...of course the controller might be a little to extreme :?  :D

I'm sorry but I had to post this.  There is an article on 6abc.com news describing the dangers that can occur if your child is using a DS.  Read it yourself to understand why it can't actually work and then read the gamesetwatch version to laugh a bit more.

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi....3905371

http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2006/02/nintendo_ds_hurting_children.php

Enjoy.

EDIT: THought I would throw this is aswell, Gamasutra have asked developers for their thoughts on what new genres and ideas could be released on the revolution.  Just follow the link to read.

http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20060215/hong_01.shtml

Personally, I want another pilotwings where you can use two controllers and be birdman by flapping your arms, hangliding which is controlled by tilting your arms to turn and such.  I'm sure I could figure out the other vehicles given time.

Heya folks,

Here are 2 articles for you about next gen.  The first one covers the 360 and will have other articles on the PS3 and Rev later on, the second article is about what should define next gen.

http://www.elitebastards.com/cms....emid=28

http://scifibrain.ign.com/index.p....id=2085

Personally I think the first one is a better read.

Final Fight: Streetwise
This the sequel to Final Fight which was relased on the SNES
Here is the back story to the new Final Fight game.
Cody Travers was a hero in Metro City... a long time ago. He brought down the Mad Gear gang. But now he's just another boxing trainer. It's his younger brother Kyle that's the star of the streets, a rising underground pit-fighter, born from nothing, meaner than anyone.

When Cody is kidnapped, and a new street drug sends Metro City spiralling into chaos, it's down to Kyle to bring the pain to the streets, to find out what's happened to his brother and to stop whoever's responsible for the chaos engulfing the city.

Some of the characters from the past Final Fighter will be in the game.

Hi folks,

If you read my previous posts about the PS3 delay and were disappointed then this article is for you.  Basically Sony say they will be ready for a spring launch in 2006.  I'm assuming this is Japan and so somewhere between March and May which does seem a little unlikely.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62956

For you Nintendo fans, Reggie has confirmed that twilight princess will finally launch this fall and denies rumours about the game being released for the Revolution .  This means that for me being in Australia, I probably won't see it till 2007.

Also, they have also stated that they will phase out the old DS system later on this year a few months after the release of the DS Lite.

You know what I mean when I say "old".  Yes the "old" DS is not the best visually or for holding for a long time above when lying down.  Thats why I will go for the new one.

And just to prove a point anth, yours not mine.  We just purchased an LCD TV that will run up to 1080i so I guess HDTV's are not entirely out of the reach of the not-rich.  Although I have been told that should I connect the PC or Gamecube (or Rev in future) my life will be forfeit, so HD capabilities in the rev still mean nothing for me should I actually want to play.

As for gaming news, not much interesting happened unfortunately.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for a good read though.

Seele: You know i'm only having a laugh don't you? Hope you do anyway. :)

Sounds a cool TV you have. I had heard that about LCD TV screens. That that am image can be stained onto them from PC's or consoles. Hopefully that message is prominent on the boxes instructions for these TV's.

and, yep, you just cannot predict anything these days in the world of electronics. prices drop so fast, things move so fast stuff is outdated so quickly that often items that are considered expensive and top end are not at the top of the scale for too long these days. I think that practically anybody with a slightly above average amount to spend on a TV in the next 12 months or so will probably find HD in their price range.

Me, i'll run my philips 32" widescreen into the ground then look whats about. *L*

Yes of course I know anth, I just don't use those smiley things so noone can ever when i'm not being serious.  I'm not too worried about burn-in.  I wouldn't be on there that long with a game or anything.  As for prices dropping, this TV only dropped about $150 in 6 months so maybe I should move to where you are as it  seems easier on the wallet. :)

Anyway, I should post some gaming news so here goes.  Apologies if some of it is a few days old.

You may or may not know about the problems with the launch of the DSlite.  Only one colour will be available on launch, which happens to be 2 days away.  The other blue colours will be available on march 11.

Next Sony have now announced there will be delays for the PS3 depsite saying there won't be.  According to Sony, the delay is a result of problems finalizing the blu-ray drive.  For the full article head to http://www.next-gen.biz/index.p....temid=2

Also on other Sony news, Gamespot has a rumour and keep in mind, this is a rumor that Sony are going to try and release a device similar to the Revolution controller for use with the eye toy.  I'll let you read the whole article at http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=24355287

Images have been released of a sort of hand-held device in development by Microsoft.  Its more like a tablet PC and looks rather large for a handheld but if you want more info, head to http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8305

In more Sony news (yes i started on sony before but I add it as I find it) there is now a playstation spot service in Japan for the PSP.  These will allow PSP owners to download game demos and other content onto their PSP. but will only be available until the unit is switched off.  For a bit more info head to http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8305

Well I think thats it for now. Expect more news this week.

Revolution has started.
Nintendo has started giving out the development kits out to all the big development companies. This is 3 months before so lets hope there is going to be playable third party game at E3 this year. On other E3 news sony and Nintendo have come out and said that there is going to be some playable games for the PS3 and Revolution but the games have not been named.

Hey people.  Thought some of you might like to read a hands on for the DS lite along with a few pics.  The brightness is not at all what I expected on the DSlite.  Much much much brighter screen.  Anyway, I will let you have a look.

Enjoy.

EDIT:  4 color rebellion have some nice more detailed pics to show the difference between the 2 DS's. (Second edit: Ooops, forgot the link) http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archive....on-pics

They have also run out of the new DSLite in Japan.  Clearly someone has to inform Nintendo to make more and hurry up and ship them to Oz.

Apologies for the lack of posting news, BNT is addictive hence why I have quit it.

While I am here, I may as well ask.  What would the readers (all 2 of you) like to see more news of?  For instance, more news on consoles, news about game releases, or even just anything that is game related.  I am just trying to find out what the public wants so I can deliver.  In the meantime, some news.

Shadowbane is now free to play online.  For a full article please refer to http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8548

The next Zelda game is once again rumoured to be Revolution Compatible.  Miyamoto in a recent interview stated "because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller."  The full article for this one is located at 1up.com.  Here is the link, http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3148776

Sony have released details on the online plan for the PS3.  The service will be free to play multiplayer games unlike XBox live but will probably make up for it by selling extra content.  Once again the artice is here, http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8529

Once again my apologies for the lack of news, but let me know what you want to see and I will search for it.

PLAYSTATION 3 to launch in November '06

It's almost here: the world's most anticipated computer entertainment system will be launched worldwide in early November.

At a press conference held in Japan earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI ) announced that PLAYSTATION 3 will launch simultaneously in Europe, Japan and America early this November, alongside a range of PS3 game titles.

"We are absolutely delighted that we will be able to bring PS3 to gamers in Europe before Christmas," commented David Reeves - President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE). "This is an exciting first for Europe, and is a huge endorsement and vote of confidence in the strength of the European market and its importance globally."

Incorporating full support for BD (Blu-ray Disc), the enormous computing power of the new system ensures high-quality playback of the new format. BD is the highly anticipated new disc format that allows for games and movies of unprecedented image quality, thanks to an enormous storage capacity of up to 50GB per disc.

In addition to standard TV sets, PS3 ushers in the next generation of entertainment with support for full high-definition TV (up to 1080p).

Broadband connectivity is also included, allowing users to benefit from a wide range of new content and services over the network.

Hi Seele and Neo.

I am one of your 2 readers :P

Re the gaming news. I run the space forum, and i find it alot better with big stories to post individual headlines rather than one big thread. It works like this, if somebody is interested in the PS3, they see PS3 as a headline and come in. At the moment they click on Gaming news and enter page 1 of a stack of gaming news.

This might work better, or at least having a seperate thread for each console / games platform.

This would create a kind of index when entering the gaming forum. Alot more user friendly. This is a good compromize between the new way and the old, it would also ensure your threads gets on the front page of OTF still. When you post in X-Box, it would go to the front page for instance.

I would also encourage people to write and post game reviews, hints, tips, cheats, walkthroughs. In a set aside threads. You could then lift this content to your website, and archive it.

I would be happy to contribute in any way i can. But, i do write for the Tribune already, run the space forum, and i am working on the OTF Star Wars film alot. So i've held back from offering to help you guys. If i could work on gaming on a casual basis i would. I'd be happy to post what news i see around. Also if i found the time i would write the odd review.

I'm into most gaming, i like retro gaming, and i have alot of the latest X-Box releases. I'm also a Coin-Op enthusiast ( it would be cool if we could post members photos of some of their big arcades, like we have Namco here in London England, a kind of review. A kind of days out guide for all over the world for members. )

I'd like to do stuff on all the above. But, as i say i could not say i would be doing it routinely. When i could though, i would. :)

You could even hand pick the best bits of all this as a round up for The Tribune every month. Linking back here at the bottom of the feature for example.
