Hello,

as you might have seen, I'm taking over as the head of the WG, ably assisted by Teekay and Beryl. Things have been a little quiet of late and I aim to change this. If there is one thing that OTF people are, it's creative. I am astounded that there have been no new submissions for so long - we need to do something about this, and pronto!

I don't care about your ability, or experience or your chosen subject. Anyone can write, absolutely anyone. I want to encourage people, that's you lot, to start scribbling down some stories. Funny stories, sad stories, serious stories, thought-provoking stories, exciting stories, just plain daft stories . . . anything. To achieve this we'll be introducing some features designed to motivate and help people to write, and get their stories onto the WG site.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to voice them, as we know we have a big job on our hands here. In the meantime, watch this space and peace out. ;)

Are there any rules to these stories? Teeks can fill you in, I'm writing a relatively unique story on my LJ... Would I be allowed to submit it eventually, after some edits for readability and stuff?

Hmm,

I finally got around to reading “Tales from the Mos Eiseley Cantina” I thought it was a great way of story telling.

What about doing something similar taking a scene from a different part of Star wars or Star Trek or Lotr and telling the stories of the people who are just there?

Try to do something similar and see where it goes!

Hong

PS looking forward to see how the writers guild develops!!

Last story I submitted was for that contest thingie that ye held last... uhm, June?

I haven't heard anything since. There've been no results or anything... so I've been wondering what happened to it, but didn't know who to ask. Can anyone help me with that? :?

Bloody hell Bria, that's unacceptable. Care to resubmit the story to me? otf_babel@hotmail.com

I can only apologise for this. It is certainly not my intention to ignore, lose or forget about stories submitted by OTF members. Sorry, Bria, please resubmit and I'll get your story properly showcased.

It could help bridge the gap between just being stuck for initial ideas, and creating an original story.

Often that series of books takes a minor character, and either begins the story from where that character(s) made his or her appearance in the film, then breaks away to tell the tale, or they end up at their scene in the film with an original story leading up to it.

Hmm

Yeah there are often cases where you wonder how did the character get there, where did they go after wards,,,,,

You could take a few scenes from a SW movie, or a book, and get people to write a story about one or two of the characters in them? Sort of a themed submission thing, like the poetry guild but not?

Writing about background characters is great, because you have a lot more freedom. I love it. :D

Interesting idea! We'll have a think on that one.

Incidentally Bria, I've received yuor story. Please give us a bit of time, as you can appreciate we are still assessing the state of play with the Guild and are nowhere near really doing anything yet *l* But we'll get your story up in due course. Thanks for submitting it. :)

I fully appreciate that... take your time! It doesn't make much of a difference whether it's this month or next month. I'll live either way. :?

...disappointed, huh? And you thought you could get rid of me. Oh well. :k

But yah, seriously - it's fine, no worries. ;)

Another idea could be re-writing famous movie scenes (or movie endings too).
This is really cool to do.. I mean, how many of us have thought: "you know, if they had done this instead.. it'd be WAY cooler"?

Meh, maybe it's just me but i always thought that a piece of work should be original.. And when you are re-writing something someone else done, you are violating their art, if that makes sense. That was their vision, and that was how they developed it, therefore it's wrong to turn it into something that the creator didn't envision.

But hey, that's just me and my thoughts. :P

I have a dilema, I have to read lots and lots of your lovely literary works of genius, but I prefere to do my reading in the bath.

So, my question is this, how do I get my quite large Packard Bell into the bathroom with me? And would a wireless mouse and keyboard work under water?

I know, I could print them all off, but I'm afraid that with all the talented folks we have in here, there just wouldnt be enough trees....

Oh yes, this is a major suck up, truth is, I'm kinda skint and lacking for monies to buy good imaginings. So feed me! My mind needs to wander to far away parts. I simply can not bath without reading and I'm starting to smell a bit whiffy....

Lookee what I found :P

Once upon a time on a moon far far away, a story began, I believe it twas begun by Sir Babel. If my memory does not fail me, now this story got very weird and twisted and I recall CT had some part of it, and I was...well I think I was .....what the heck was I? I've been a cheerleader and a ....NO I was a referee or was it a judge? I can't remember, but this story went on, it was here on the forums for quite some time. People were battleing various each others and......well.....I just remember it as if I were looking back on it through a fog, J...what the heck am I talking about? :P

WooT! for the WG :)
