Remember way back in 2nd grade, when you wrote your name and thought up words that started with the letters in your name? Well, those are actually special types of poems, known as "Acrostic Poems". You take a word such as "FOOD" and spell the word vertically, and insert descriptive words that tell what the word is horizontally, like so:
Fattening
Oranges
Oatmeal
Dairy Queen
The descriptive words don't have to be one word long, but many people prefer to use one word descriptions. Notice how the word I wanted to spell is vertical in bold, and the descriptions that tell what the word is are vertically written.
