Greetings OTfers :D
With all the hussle and bussle around V-day i've heard a couple of voices who were uttering some non V-day emotions. So for counterbalance like the Ying for the Yang a place for people to be able to express those feelings :? .
Personally i have no hard feelings agains V-day: it never really did anything wrong to me.(not much good either).
Enjoy :}

P.S. Can someone edit my spelling dohs :?  :(

I agree. I really fail to see why we need a specific day to show the one we love how much we do actually love them, this is something we should do all year round. But what really bugs me again is the commercial aspect of it, and how it is so heavily publicised within our cultures.

But hey, it's just another day, and although there may be things about it i don't like or disagree with, the notion behind it is a pleasant one, and we get to spoil and spend time with those we love. Not like we need the excuse of valentines day to do it.  :P

Of course, if we had a singles day, people with partners would still find a way to poach it, and all the news items would be about how to find a love interest, so not much would change :(

Hrm.....what about the girls who just like the chase?  What if we like the thrill of pursuing and wooing the guy?  Even more so than the actual relationship stuff?  Do they make greeting cards for those people?

"Dear Lover, I'm Stalking You.  There's No need to run or hide, since I know where you live.  You're mine!  Happy Valentine's Day."

Notice, this is just a joke.  I'm not making fun of any single women.  I have had many, many pretend boyfriends.  I think they're fun.  For a while, I was disheartened that the pretend boyfriend was losing it's popularity, but as I was walking across campus the other night, a bunch of girls stood outside of some poor college boy's dorm and shouted up at his window, "WE LOVE YOU!!"  I can now once again be confident in knowing that the concept of the pretend boyfriend will never die. *LOL*

What's so bad about being single, anyway? No snoring on the other half of the bed, no need to look good on a Saturday, and no compromises! ;)

What I think Would Be Funny is if we allcame up with a list of the Top 10 Ways To Lose A Valentine Before Valentine's Day.  I would start us off but I can't think of anything.  I need to be properly motivated before I can be creative. *sighs*

For Anyone Who Is Confused....

My inspiration for this activity came from the movie, "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days," with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.  In the movie, Hudson's character writes an article as she secretly dates McConaughey's character.  Of course, Hudson's character is trying to write the article "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" so she is faced with the mission to seduce, woo, and ultimately try to lose her guy in 10 days.  McConaughey's character has a running bet with some female colleague's that he can't make any woman fall in love with him in only 10 days.  McConaughey's character is cocky, thinks himself a real "Ladies Man" and takes the bet, thinking it is a surefire win.  What McConaughey's character doesn't realize is that he has been set up by his friends who already know that Hudson is looking for some fodder for her article.  As the pair head it off, comedy is sure to follow....but the end holds a surprise.  Are two people who are so determined to foil romance destined to fall in love?  Perhaps you can't help who you fall in love with after all.

Maybe one year everyone should just boycott Valentines day and celebrate March 13th or something instead by making a donation to one's favorite charity.

To be honest,  I kind of ignore Valentines day in general.  But that's probably because for the last three years it fell on a giant youth conference type thing we did at my college and seriously, not even the couples had time to think about it.

I really really really want to get married, and I haven't a hope because I don't even know any guys who aren't related to me or already married or several kilometers away.  But I don't mind Valentines.  My parents always loaded my sister and I up with candy and gifts.  In fact, last year my dad forgot to give me a card, he always gives me a card, and I mentioned it to him and he sounded soooo broken hearted on the phone.

I feel loved *shrugs* even if it's not by a boyfriend or a fiance or a husband.

Top 5 reasons why V-day sucks for me.

5. Being around your friends who have someone
4. Watching them kiss and nussel
3. being the 5th wheele
2. them not giving me the hookup! Bah!
1. Listening to their late night activites because the walls are paper thin..

I absolutely hate Valentine's Day.  It reminds me of the empty place inside myself that will most likely never be filled.  Love this, love that... Love can bite me, since it doesn't care about me.

I already celebrated Valentine's Day. Yep, that's right, I celebrated it January 4th when all the department stores put up their "happy happy lovey dovey" red, white and pink crap  :)

The sad aspect of this isn't that they put it up the day after New Year's, but that I really did send out my Valentine cards on January 4th.  :(

Alex, who hates Valentine's Day...

"Love is February 14th", according to the local department store. I think it's a load of crap. If I love someone, I love them 24/7, all year round, not just on one day. It's all so shallow...
It makes people who are single feel pressurised into finding someone. It makes people who aren't single feel pressurised into buying expensive gifts, cards and flowers. Basically, it's a lot of pressure that we don't need. I've known people who split up before V-day and got back together afterwards, to avoid spending money.
Personally - this year marks the nineteenth V-day that I'll be single. Out of nineteen in total. And if that should ever be different, which I suppose it will be sometime in the future - I still won't make a big deal of it.
What really bugs me about it is that it makes people who are single feel bad. You shouldn't feel bad. It's not the be-all and end-all of life, to have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

I don't know of any holiday where people look for raisins.  And I don't celebrate Easter with an Easter egg hunt either.

St. Patricks Day is March 17.  It's associated heavily with Irish culture, mostly because Saint Patrick was a repeat missionary in Ireland.  Lots of green things.  It's tradition that if you're not wearing green, someone who is wearing green can pinch you.

That in itself is annoying, but it tends to be an unpleasent anniversary for me and I hate it.

America has taken Paddy's Day and made it all weird and stuff. You're all wrong! :o Not everyone in Ireland has red hair and freckles and prances around in meadows and sits on haybales and talks to leprachauns, you know!
Here, it's just a national holiday where people go around being proud to be Irish. And we have parades and stuff, those are fun. And we can say "Kiss me, I'm Irish" to foreigners.
...that might have been made up. :(

Anyway, V-Day sucks a lot more than Paddy's Day. Even the colours are better. :( And Paddy's Day isn't really such a big deal when it comes to buying gifts and crap. :?

Are you sure... I'm sure your hair was red, Svenja, and you definitely did prance, float, dance, and speak to Lemmings (which begin with 'L', like 'Leprechauns';)...

My hair isn't and never has been red, Iain. That was Ray's lemonade and your ice cream. :o

My hair is blonde. Or light brown. At the most, it's kind of coppery. No more!

And I can state with 100% certainty that I never danced. :(

Nor do I speak to lemmings... unless you are one? :?
