American and Korean networks have come on board Iron Kid, the 3D action series from Spanish toon house BRB.
Korean network KBS has acquired the show, which will get its premiere during MipTV, while the US network will be announced at the market. The other networks to sign up are TVE and Jetix in Spain and TVI in Portugal.
The copro, with the US's Manga Entertainment and Daewon and Design Storm in South Korea, tells the story of a boy who becomes a robot after finding the fist of a powerful droid. The show recently won Best Children's Television Series at Animacor.
The series was written by Nicole Dubuc (Kim Possible, Adventures of Jackie Chan) and Ben Townsend (Ninja Turtles, Mucha Lucha! ), with creative direction by Javier Martinez (winner of the 2000 University Oscar for his 3D short Light).
BRB claimed that the series is the first of its kind in Europe to have Asian and American studios on board from conception and scripting through to production.
A marketing and licensing campaign for the series is under way, spearheaded by the launch of three video games for Nintendo. There is also a feature film planned as well as a second series.
Elsewhere, BRB International is taking The Invisible Man to MipTV, two years after the toon was presented at The Cartoon Forum.
Originally created in Spain, the European coproduction is available in four languages, and is about to air on RAI (Italy) and Antena 3 (Spain) following its recent première on M6 (France). The series, coproduced by Moonscoop and Antefilm, features comedy superhero Alan Crystal, who becomes invisible after an accident.
