Arstechnica has a possible PS3 price for europe at somewhere between €499 and €599 Euros.  This is about $605 to $726 US and in Aus dollars a $830 to $996.  An expensive console for sure.

Also for a bit of old news, it looks like UMD movies are not working out with some major movie companies pulling out.  Took me some time to find it but here it is from next-gen http://www.next-gen.biz/index.p....temid=2 and game cloud too http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=4136

Quite a funny rumour article on kotaku about the PS3 being too big for itself and the OS consumes more resources than running a virtual XP in XP.  Have a read and decide for yourself if you want to believe them.

The inquirer reports on an alleged problem with the Cell processor.  At this stage its still unconfirmed but an interesting read if it makes sense to you and a little worrisome if the stats are correct.  So far I haven't seen a game site reports this so once again don't take this as fact

Edit : Looks like the article was a little wrong in the way it talked about which memory was being accessed.  Have a read of some of the more techinical comments on the slashdot page.

I think Sony is going to lose its place as #1 console ( in numbers ) out there.

From what i hear it's going to be expensive. I've no idea if the games will follow suit? But, speaking from a UK point of view, it was the PS2's pricing on games and starter packages which made it #1 here. Much of that has to do with what parents see as a bargain come christmas and b'days.

If Nintendo want that crown, they will have to betray everything they are and go more violent and release GTA clones. They won't ( i hope ) which leaves the 360 to be #1, and lets face it, its light years ahead of the competition now anyway. The 360's market share will be huge by the time the Wii and PS3 is out there. By the time the PS3 comes out, the 360 will be onto its second year of christmas shopping!

I'll have to agree.  It seems more and more that they are using the PS3 just to push blu-ray out there.  Its been stated many times that its not a game machince and even recently one of the execs went so far as to say we don't need PC's anymore because we will have the PS3.  About the game prices who knows, but if they are the same or more than the 360 games then I see that putting off more people.

As for Ninty, they are trying to grab people who haven't played games for a long time because they got bored of them, as well as new gamers who have never played games in their life.  Its cheap price for both the console and games will make it a secondary console gamers too (those who won't buy all 3) so sales are there.

It will be a close race though as the Xbox performs poorly in Japan and has only recently started selling more consoles per week than the Gamecube while the PS2 still sells 20,000+, almost as much as the PSP.  http://dsrevolution.com/article.php?articleid=1175 the data is 2 weeks old but still shows you the numbers for the hardware.
