the suggestion box seems to be broken, so I'll post these here. :-P

1st suggestion:

I would like a messaging system in 10F.  Meaning, I'd like to be able to leave messages to other members... kind of like email, but not really.  The issue would probably be server space... so maybe this could be done with 1) limited amount of characters one can send  2) the message gets deleted as soon as it's checked and 3) if the message is older than say, 1 month, it gets deleted.  This really shouldn't take that much space, and it'd be really useful.  Particularly since some people don't offer a method of contact in their dossiers.

2nd suggestion:

It'd be cool if one could login once and be automatically logged into everything in 10F... Like, chats, forums, the cool officer tool, etc.

3rd suggestion:

It'd be cool to create a "10F History."  Items to be added to it would be major things that may have happened and major people who made a difference.  Sometimes people talk about stuff that happened in the past and all the new people are like "huh"?  It'd be also cool to add to this every year, so that old people who don't come around as much can go to it and read about what's changed.

Cool ideas :)

But don't we sorta already have Idea 3 in place, where's the Archives? Are they still online?
I know ages ago, I was asked for tons of memories by someone for the Archives.

Yeah I like Idea 2 the most, I'd love to have one main login page, the room choice and everything else just be optional, it'd be cool to move from room to room without reloging in :)

Nice job!

The archives took out my one shining moment. :(

And they never asked me for information either.

Therefore...the archives are incomplete. We need new ones.

You lot, hm?

And here I thought I was the cutest - but then again, I am by far not as mean as Pols is, so she definitely wins in combination! :D

but Pols is undeniably meaner than Teeks. I have the scars to prove it!

Ok, you 3 totally took my very serious post and made it into a joke. :P

Pol is an extremely sweet person who likes making people think she's mean.

And I cannot believe they removed your wedgie from the archives!  That was like, one of our prime moments and I am very proud to have been there for it.  Yet another example of 10F trying to follow the rules a little too much and kick out fun!

TK, it's hard to tell who's the cutest, but you definitely got carded when you came to the US.. hehe.

I apologize for bringing the thread back on topic but I have a suggestion.

It's pretty much an unspoken universal rule that you can't actually compliment someone or give them positive feedback on their character or hard work because the universe would end or something like that. It's a big giant secret if we approve of each other, I haven't quite figured out why yet but if someone knows feel free to enlighten me. As such, we are extremely cheap about uplifting each other. So my suggestion is - potentially a lot of work for Iain - to randomly on occation give people a comment or two from the promotion recommendations.  I know not everyone will get one because they don't fulfill the promo requirments, or they're just plain annoying, but if we don't give them to EVERYONE who gets a promo every time and just do it randomly, no one's going to be able to pout and think "No one loves me I'm going to go eat worms" because they didn't get one.

Or is that stupid?

When I recommend someone I always make a comment and think it would be lovely if those comments could be passed along to the person. :) I was thinking about that just this morning. Brilliant and lovely idea, Pols :)

I agree.. I've thought  in the past that it would be nice  to see who actually recommended you when you got promoted ... good idea.. and I like Cam's too.

The only problem with knowing who the comment came from would be people might get snippy if friends didn't recommend 'em. Leaving it anon might be safer.

THat's true but it would be nice to thank them for doing it. Maybe have a place where if they want to make their comments anonomous(let them see the comment but not their name) that could work too...

JUst a thought...

Yeah, and you don't have to get ALL the comments either. Even if whoever sorts thro all that picks two or three.

Hey, thought I'd jump on the band wagon here *l*

For the same reason QD said, I think letting people know who recommended you would be a bad mistake, because you can't always tell if that person will be offended that someone they thought would recommend them didn't, or that they'd tell their friends and they would get irritated because they didn't get promoted or whatever. But I do think a comment or two from the promotion reasonings should be passed along to know what the member really did to desrve the promotion, so they can keep doing the great work that they are. Maybe just pick the best one? But the idea in general sounds great!

Back to Cam's ideas, I think a messaging system would be great, but it wouldn't be too practical to impliment. It would take a lot of work and server space, even with some modifications and limits it's still going to go through some internal problems.

And, last I heard, the Archives were up and running, but new content was trying to be put into them...feel free to correct me if I'm wrong *l*

Just my opinions  ;)

Call it "Random Kudos"

Not all but one or two .........mix em up...you don't have to be so cut and dry as to say, this person recommended you, here's what they said. Just make it more whimsical, you could even post them about a couple people a month or whatever.

Mix it up and it'll work....

Now about Cam's Ideas??? :)

Archives - They're still there.  I'm not sure how often they're updated, but they're there.  I know Comm. is low on webspace, so we're sorting that out now.  After that there will be room for additions.  As the website says, email the Historian if you want something added.  I don't know who the historian is.. but hopefully that address is forwarding to someone!  *l*

As for the promotion comments, we do pass on some comments.  We did it for quite a while with the One-Zero Report, and we're doing it again with the Blue Report.  We're also running a special recognition section in the same report.  If you think someone is worthy of a special comment, send it to your SC/DSC and they'll put it in the report.  =)

I'll be honest, the Blue report is overwhelming. I can't figure out what I want to look at or where to find what I want to look. I'm not sure it's really the best way to do it, that and people WILL know who does and who does not recieve acknowledgement beyond the promo.  Personally, I'd rather get an email with my promotion (strictly fantasy, I know) saying "Hey, yo. Here's why we promoted you, and Zild told us that he's in love with you."

I think it's doable, with a few guidelines to keep the insanity down.

I agree, it is overwhelming, but one thing I like about it over the One-Zero Report is that it is on white background, which makes it somewhat easier to read, but I do think that changing the font and color here and there would make it even more readable.

And on a side note, the current historian is CL7 Dracmus.  ;)

Hm, OK - thanks for bringing this to our attention.  Do you think the Blue report is 'overwhelming' because all the content is on one page?  The navigation menu at the top on the left is so you can go to the stuff you wan to read.  And the 'Article List' link at the bottom of each article takes you back to that list.  Does that help?  Or still no?

Any other constructive ideas, criticisms and comments are most welcome on the Blue Report.  We're writing it each month for all you piglets out there, so if you have an issue with us let us know!

As for comments along with promotions, funnily enough that's something I've started doing in the last few months when I've had spare time for senior promotions.  Emailing people that have been promoted to CL5+ with congratulations and some of the reasoning behind it - most of which they already know, but it's still nice to officially recognise.  However, this is one of those things I only do when I have spare time.  We all have busy lives and what you're proposing on top of the existing end of month duties is more than what it sounds like.

So if you've been promoted and you're interested why, I'd suggest actually emailing your SC and DSC and thanking them.   :?   Sounds shocking, I know.  But then you could also ask them for some of the reasoning behind it if the Blue Report is too overwhelming to look at and they didn't find a spare 10 minutes to write you a personal congratulations email on top of their regular responsibilities.  =)  Another option, which I know some people have taken, is to complain and object to being promoted.  Then, in our own defence, we will give you reasons as to why we promoted you. ;)

You know....ever since Nicoll insinuated that I have ADD.... :o

Brady...yes that helps somewhat, but the side bar thing isn't terribly explanitory either, at least to what I understood. But it's true. It wasn't shiney enough and I skipped lots of words.  I don't think it's something I'll really ever read because it's...too busy.  From an artistic perspective, when I look at the page, my eyes don't know where to go first.

Secondly - and this is a bit of a departure from my original suggestion, let not my own personal soapbox ruin my first request - for us insane lunatics who happen to view the promotion system and mentality behind it in a completely different way than the rest of you, it might help to actually get an email without having to ask for it (because if you're like me, having to ask for it just proves my point).  And if the typical response to everything I've heard about MY promo is "because lots of people recommended you and thought you did a good job" - that's not feedback. That's a broad band genertic comment that you could just tack onto the bottom of the OTF "you've been promoted!" email.  And that sort of feedback also just proves my point (my point has not been specified in this thread and it shall not be specified on the forums at all).  I guess I'm asking the EC or whoever it is that does this stuff, to prove something. But hey, it's okay if you don't want to take me up on that.  You don't need an offical "Polson Approved" sticker on anything you do.  And those stickers are hard to come by, so if you don't think you can do it, don't bother trying. It's not worth the effort just to fail.  But don't expect me to do a dance everytime I get an award or some sort of generic empty recognition if you're not willing to back your intentions.

P.S. For those who aren't sure of when I am or am not expressing disgust, the above was what I would call "mildly annoyed" for being called out by Brady for complaining about promotions (Not that I don't love him dearly, because I do. Dearly. In fact, we plot together against Iain. Frequently. Poisoned muffins.).

I've thanked Hobbie for his wonderful job as DSC... I mean, before my latest promotion, my job was to bug, bother and annoy him.  Now he gets hugs, and only special people get hugs from me..

So yeah.. thanks Hobbie  ;)
