Seeing as how they lie between Britain and mainland France, they are in Europe *L*

And since the U.K. is part of the EU, the channel isles are part of that also.

Europe doesn't end until Greenland in the northwest, the Ural and Caucasus in Russia, and the Bosporos and Gibraltar in the mediterranean region ;)

Well, the Channel Islands are part of the UK and are therefore part of the EU. I spent a greta summer working in Guernsey once, worked in the evenings and at night, slept in the sun at day blew all my pay on the brilliant local food and, admittedly, beer!

Hey,

Geologicaly Ireland, Britain. Isle of man, channel islands are all on the contintal shelf, therefore very firmly attached to Europe.

By the way I maybe from the UK but I live in Asia!!!

*sigh* Oh really. I thought we were more educated than this! Let me set it aaaaaalllllll straight.  ;)

The republic of Ireland is in the EU. the republic of Ireland is part of the €uro. Ulster, six counties (like states-just smaller) in the north are governed by the UK which is also in the EU. Other than the EU ties, and the language, Ireland and the UK are unaffiliated. Ireland has been independant from the UK since 1922 and joined the EU along with Denmark and UK in 1973. The British isles (just a name left over from the UK occupation) may be on the edge-but they most certainly are part of the EU.

Hope that clears it up!
:v KC :v

Ireland is geographically part of the British Isles, but obviously not politically.

Isn't it a bit sad that here we are, rushing to define our borders in these days of the internet, ease of travel, European union etc? *shrugs* Anyone agree?

Aye, I agree, Babel.

Political borders have shifted a lot during the past (if you go back long enough in, say, Europe, everything belonged to everyone at some point in time). Geographical "borders" rarely change...
And the Net gets rid of many a barrier too. :)

This may sound corny, but we're all humans, right?  Borders are all relatively arbitrary anyway in my humble opinion.

i still think you are missing the point, Ireland did allot of hard work to become what it is today. Im not going into it don't worry, but if someone is posting something about your country that was offensive (possibly to some) out of date and wrong, would you really care about it? has nothing to do with ease of travel internet etc, it defines who we are as a country. yes we are humans and yes we should have no boundrys as respect to race economic,sex... the list goes on. But the issue brought up was in relation to a misconecption the Ireland is part of the UK . Dont get me wrong UK is great - nothing against it. But if in the morning some said to some Uk peep "UK is part of ireland", would you not run to answer them NO???? Its not about Geographical "borders. Please understand that :)

And sorry for going on about this...
