Post your tips for begginers here.
I can't, of course, give you my entire stategy, but here is a few things I have learned from early mistakes.
DO NOT real space until it becomes almost or more effective as warp routes. This is no longer a factor once your engines are 15+.
Scout early for planets you think are not commonly used. This can save you a bundle of credits in the long run as trade routes are more productive when noone trades at them. Also make sure you are using the convienent trade route utility as this can literally save hours. (see "How to Play" on BNT Home page.)
Make sure you have several trade routes. When you see your starting to lose significant profit find different ports.
