Well... some people saw these a while back... but just for everyone to have a poke at.... heres somthing ive been working on for a while... and its no long before completion... =)

its hard working on my own though lmao

sql is gunne be the toughest part to complete...








Any feedback Would be apreciated... anyone with any questions fire away..

... and who says i dont know how to code :P

... plus this version is 100% hack proof, 100% script proof, 100% cheat proof. only way you'll be able to screw up this one is to edit the sql directly... lmao... hacking the server ... but ive got a trick up my sleve to stop that as well... lmao...

They're for my eyes only.

There is another game that looks like that, or maybe I just think there is.

Anyway, if you wan't a hand with SQL, don't ask me because I probably know as much as you, but if you want I will be willing to help.

Hey folks,

Dave is currently looking for some ideas on the planets and so far has an idea of having options for your planets by automating them for you so as to prevent trying to micromanage all your planets.

Example:
Set the planets stance to hostile so it will concentrate on building military components
Normal will build a bit of everything at the same time
Defensive will build detection and defensive components mainly

So give us your ideas.

Yep

I havent built the planets really... ive just been throwing around ideas...

... i did make the planets one way, but after discussion... i found that it would cause a planet building player to go insaine ...

So any ideas for planets ... please throw them my way...

Bearing in mind that planets can now hold troops.... and each planet (if you have seen the screenshots) can have 3 bases on them...

... this is to stop players creating 100% fortified planets ... well to make planets as strong as their weakest link...

... and also i did this to remove the need for sector defences... which are a waste of time... blerb... instead ... each Base will have its own fleet... which the base supports lmao... it is simular to bnt... however if a base has a fleet... all the user would be able to do is scan the fleet... and attack it... they wont be able to even scan the planet or anything...

... anyway ideas.

Well anyway, we have been talking and it got me thinking about some crazy ideas.

I would like to have increased colonist reproduction option too.  So when someone makes a new planet, they can focus on farming which increase colonists reproduction but at the cost of
defense and such.  Good way to get colonists but leaves it open for attack if you are not careful

Also have a way of controlling max colonists.  The more colonists you have the more % you need set to farming to maintain them.  The idea here being that you need to farm more of the planet surface.  So not necessarily let them starve but just stop growing at a certain point.

And for the idea that is probably going a little too far, freighters.  In the essence that you can have farming planets that produce alot of food that is then spread out amongst your other planets.  

The reason I add is because it make some planets more strategic as you will be relying on them to support your empire.  Then if someone drops mines or fighters in your sector it acts as a blockade, preventing the planet from receiving or sending food.  You could also sell excess food for a profit or just store it on other planets so they can resist a blockade for a bit.

Oops, I see dave doesn't want Sector defenses.  Well, will think up something.

Anyway just some ideas, crazy ideas.

Quick reply for now, I would make freighters an automated thing too.  In that people don't have control them or anything, the planets just run them, your empire takes care of itself sort of thing.  I suppose the only thing would be how many you want in your empire and you just buy them like that, no deciding on hull sizes or routes, just buy em as you need em to maintain your empire.

I have another idea but I will talk to you before posting it on here.

the basics of New World Traders

Theres Space - which you can move around in.
Theres also solar systems, which you can enter, where the planets and ports are.

Basics, each Solar System is random, and comes in 3 sizes, the commen 3x3, the uncommen 5x5, and the rare 7x7.

Each solar system has random amounts of ports and planets (i.e. a solar system could contain 5 good planets and 1 of every port (if your lucky))

Each planet can contain up to 3 bases, (like ordinary bnt, but rarther then have seperate planets, each planet has 3 bases)

Unlike bnt though... if you owned a solar system, all you would need to do i place 1 solar system defence in place to defend all your planets, which could be 7 or 8 planets, which is 21-24 bases, which is a lot of resource being protected....

basically ... in theory... you could win the game without ever leaving your solar system.... even though there are EXPENSIVE ways to destroying the sd's.
...
look at this ... you will see it has all types of ports, and 13 planets ... thats 39 bases... most people dont have that many when they play bnt (equiv of planets) ... you could win the game just defending this solar system

... just some basic vague info... anything else you want to know ask.

Not getting many ideas here dave.  Probably because people need to play the game before making suggestions about it.

Get that Single player mode out there and people will tell you what they like and dislike about it and then you will get the real suggestions.

No pressure though, you are only expected to replace BNT now.  Still haven't talked to you about my idea yet.

i thought about making a game like this for my senior project for my bachelors in computer science, but decided instead to make a carputer.  :)  
But I had coded a lot of the mySQL tables and wrote all the cgi's using perl.  You're prolly using php but they are pretty similar.  It was a lot of fun, tho I never finished.  I'd be willing to help code if you wanted, it's always good to refresh those skills.  I'll leave the designing up to the rest of you guys.  lol
