According to Microsoft, they will be ending all technical support for Windows 98/ME on July 11, 2006, incuding Windows XP SP1 on October 10, 2006.

There's always trouble with Windows. They'll still be giving technical support for XP SP2, they just want you to update your computer if your using SP1, to put it simple, Microsoft is too lazy to continue the support for SP1.

MS has always 'stopped support' on their dying OSes. From what I've seen, most the users I've worked with are either running XP SP2 or 2K SP4 Rollup. Although it's sad to hear I can no longer update my 98 on my laptop.
I knew the day would come... Guess that means I can wipe it and go to Linux now, seeing as it's the only thing that'll run on my 100MHz, 40MB RAM, Pentium Pro...
