Gustav Klimt, famous for his potrait The Kiss, has had the potrait of his alleged lover Adele-Bloch-Bauer (see image) sold for the grand total of $135 million (£73m).
This means that this painting has sold for more than Picasso's Garçon à la Pipe ($104,168,000) and Dora Maar au Chat ($95,216,000), Van Gogh's Portrait du Dr Gachet ($82,500,000), Renoir's Au Moulin de la Galette ($78,100,000) and Reuben's The Massacre of the Innocents ($76,730,700).
The image was purchased by billionaire cosmetics mogul Ronald Lauder, owner of the Lauder cosmetics fortune and the Neue Galerie museum in New York, where the piece of art will be displayed.
Until last year when the painting was returned to Klimt's living heir, the piece of art had been kept in an Austrian museum after having been seized by the Nazi's. Some of Klimt's other work still resides in Austria.
