Okay, that's twice now I've had folks bringing up episodes from my favorite show ever that I won't be able to see until November or later.  STOP IT!  Just because you've seen it doesn't mean everyone else has!!!

Maybe it helps to just ask the people not to talk about it, and explain why? It may come as a shock, but most people can not read minds, and thus do not know which episodes you have or have not seen.

For example, I occasionally like to talk about Doctor Who. Since Quincy told me that they only just aired Rise of the Cybermen over there, I guard not to speak of series two when he's in chat.

Simple.  ;)

I agree with Richard.  There's no way people can tell if you have or haven't seen the episode, all you can do is ask people to not mention it or simply you can leave yourself if they will not stop.

To be honest, you can't go to a site like OTF and not expect people to talk about Stargate the day after an episode, especially if it is a good one.  Friday nights it airs in the US so you will have people talking about it on the weekends.

Of course I tell people I haven't seen it and ask them not too.  But I'm smart enough to figure out that the world doesn't run by the USA's tv schedual and so I don't discuss anything that's at least one season back for those who live overseas or in other parts of the world who don't get it on my time schedual.  I'm just asking for folks to turn on their brains and consider others, if that's too much to ask then I apologize for even THINKING of it.  How stupid of me.

And yes, I'm grumpy. *scowls*

Yeah Pols, you really are grumpy...why?

Anyway..about spoilers, this being a chatroom, it's what people do, they chat, and they normally chat about likeminded topics, being that it's a (mostly) like minded chatroom...your ranting about something that's gone on for...*looks at the adverts all over the outpost* 9 years now. :)

Just don't get tooo angry when people want to talk about topics that interest them. I'm sorry you've not seen the show yet...you could always just try and ignore the chattering, (even if I know it's hard) or leave and go ... bake cookies or something for a bit, till the next random topic comes up and come back :)

I do think...noone is stupid, and we can all get along, if we try hard enough, irregardless of what season the show's in :)

Peace to you my sistah!

Why am I being grumpy?

1. I've seen several people post the whole "don't post spoilers" threads before, and it's been followed with "yeah! don't do that!" meanwhile I get a "it's your problem".  Pick a position and stop moving around so I know what is and what is not.

2. I'm very very tired.  I'm over worked, over tired, over everything.

3. If I told you this one, I'd open up a big can of worms that would inevidably result in this thread getting shut down

4. It's not wrong of me to ask people to be considerate about spoilers.  It's not in the slightest wrong.  I can't make anyone be considerate, true, but I certainly can make a thread post asking for it without getting chided for it.  Like I said, at some point you figure out the world does not run on America's timeline and when you do, you're welcome to act on that information.  No one should have to leave the chat because someone else is being inconsiderate.

5. I am REALLY really pissed off that I live 12 hours away from where my favorite show is filmed but I have to wait until November to see what people are already seeing.

I know that I'm not the shining example of perfect OTF citizenship, so feel free to take that all with a grain of salt.  But I speak my mind and the fact that some people don't like it won't stop me.

You people have really done it now, you've made me agree with Polson. :v

To commemorate this most rare and deeply disturbing fact I'm going to post in a similar numbered style to the aforementioned Polson.

1. Everyone has a right to be grumpy, it's fun.

2. Flip flopping hypocrisy is a much worse character flaw than grumpiness and acting like a spoilt child.

What comes after 2? *checks Polson's list*

3. I distinctly remember people making very similar remarks about the last Harry Potter book and a special thread of spoilers being set up.  Talking about the book in chat was then discouraged.

4. I used the word aforementioned which is very big for a small brain like mine so I must be right.

5. I want to have a 5th point because Polson had 5 points and having less might in some way make me look inferior. :(

Anyway... It's not like I even watch the show so carry on.

There is a difference between a book/movie release and an ongoing TV show.
How fair is it to ask people to not talk about a show on a weekly basis? It's not.

The policy of no spoilers for a book or a movie usually lasts for a couple weeks, if that.  There is just no way you can do that with a TV show, especially a popular one like Stargate.

Calling people hypocritical is probably not the best way to gain any sort of support for your arguments and may in fact turn people against you (even if they agree).

Never start an argument in "attack" mode. It turns folks off quickly...Always state your case, ask, and see what the results bring.
I do think there's a huge difference in delaying a book/movie discussion for a limited time period, and just asking people never to talk about an ongoing TV show. I don't know how to resolve this one.....there are countries that indeed are whole seasons behind each other, is it really reasonable to ask a whole part of the world, to not discuss something for a whole season? I don't know about that one...but I think there's ways to talk about things without getting pissed off/ defensive before most of us even have a clue as to what it is that's gotten you so angry.

Attacking first..is never a good way to win a debate....
Now if we wanna open it to ideas or suggestions, sure go for it.

How would you go about fixing this? Do you really want folks to not discuss something for a year?

Deanna, I didn't attack until I felt attacked first off.  My first post was loud and noisy, but I'm loud and noisy.  If you spend two minutes with me in rl you'll understand what I mean.  I attacked in my second post.  My last post was explaining why I was grumpy.

Differences between books and tv.  The book comes out at the same time all over, everyone has access to it and if you haven't read it after a couple of months though you've been able to, it's really your own problem for not knowing what's happened.  TV on the other hand, there is NOTHING I can do unless I go with "quasi legal" as Phill puts it options, and I'm not advocating that.  Unless I pack my bags and move to the states, my show is not available.

Two, asking people not to discuss spoilers in chat is about as fair as making someone else have to avoid the chat room because of spoilers.  You can't plan to not see a spoiler.  Someone posts it and then you're halfway through it before you realize they're ruining it for me.  The only way to not have that problem is to never chat, unless people are willing to discuss something else, another aspect of the show even, but not give anything away.  I'd be happy in fact if people who wanted to talk about their show titled every post "SG SPOILERS:" or whatnot so that you know not to read it.

Like I said, I wasn't being unresonable in asking for some consideration for those who don't live in America.  We're not all that fortunate .

For the record, I never though Polson's posts were attacking  :?

I understand Polson's argument, but unlike her I accept that I may see spoilers while in OTF.  If the conversation turns towards that show I watch, I either ask politely to not talk about it or I log out.  If I do manage to see a spoiler, then I accept that and move on.  I get angry for maybe a minute or two, and then I just continue on.  I will still watch the show and to me, spoilers for the main part don't affect my viewing of said TV shows.  But we're all different in that...

I've been really grumpy myself lately...
I've been downright angry in general..I shouldn't have even commented on this thread, since to be honest, I really don't care about spoilers or not.

Sorry Pols...I didn't mean to offend you in anyway, hope you can forgive me :)

I'll just step away for awhile, till the usually happy me returns. :)

Aw, Deanna, I'm being abnormally grumpy too, so we deserve each other *l*.  I'm not really THAT angry about it, so much as I am angry that I can't watch the shows people are talking about I'm just having one of those weeks where I'm ready for a fight.  One of those "if you knew what was good for you you'd lock me up and throw away the key" moments.  But I still hate spoilers for my show.  You can spoil almost anything for me but Stargate and I won't care.

The end to my novel. (Currently being written).
"The universe would have to take care of itself."

Last sentence, if you see it in store shelves in two or three years you saw it here first!
