Anybody seen this information below? A 3 part "mini series" 30 minutes an episode to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek.

Forgive me if this has been talked about before. But i was shocked to see it this morning. I came across it by accident.

I've put all the info i found below. You can watch a trailer by visiting this link...

Or at Youtube....

I managed to find this version of the trailer, as a direct download if you prefer it...

Anybody who has seen the fan films "Star Trek - New Voyages" will know they do a great job on effects, and film sets etc. Some have said it's good, but the acting is not great. Well, now we have a whole host of Trek actors starring, that should not be a problem any longer.

I would place this series somewhere between a high quality fan film, and a studio production.

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men Wraps Production

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, an all-new three-part mini-series webisode featuring many Trek alumni, wrapped production yesterday in Los Angeles.  A 40th anniversary gift to Star Trek’s loyal fans, Star Trek: Of Gods and Men will be released exclusively on the Internet as downloads, each 30 minutes in length. The first trailer can be viewed on the official website, http://www.startrekofgodsandmen.com/ .

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men stars Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and Grace Lee Whitney (Uhura, Chekov and Rand of the original series) along with Alan Ruck (Captain John Harriman of the 7th feature film, Star Trek Generations).  Joining them are Garrett Wang and Ethan Phillips (Voyager); Cirroc Lofton, Chase Masterson and JG Hertzler  (Deep Space Nine), Gary Graham and Crystal Allen (Enterprise), Herb Jefferson  (Battlestar Galactica) plus Tim Russ (Voyager), who also directed.  The same team that created the hit “Roddenberry on Patrol,” currently in DVD release also directed by Russ is producing the webisode.

The idea is to produce the series in three parts, each approximately 30 minutes in length, to be released exclusively on the Internet as a download. The timing couldn't be better as the phenomenon of Internet-only episodes — or "webisodes" — is gaining momentum, especially as there is no current Star Trek show in production. (See previous story here.)

"I'm very excited about the script," enthused Nichelle Nichols. "And I'm looking forward to re-creating Uhura in a time line that feels good to me. I think the fans will enjoy it immensely!"

"The original series was in danger of being cancelled after the second season, and the fans came through," said Walter Koenig. "Once again, after 40 years, with the support and enthusiasm of the fans Star Trek will have another life on the Internet — and I'm very pleased to be part of it."

"I'm looking forward to working with a lot of fine actors,” exclaimed Tim Russ. "It's a nostalgia-based Trek project — and I think the fans will really get a kick out of it. We've never seen this kind of Trek story before."

"After I read the script, I definitely wanted to participate,” said Garrett Wang. "The character I'm playing is completely opposite from my Voyager character — and it's always more challenging for an actor to play a bad guy. It will be fun to have an edge, to keep it truthful."

Director of photography is Trek veteran Doug Knapp. In addition, many artists in the field of makeup and lighting will join them for what is sure to be a history-making event.

As the producers point out, it's not at all about the money. "What makes 'Star Trek: Of Gods and Men' special is that all these creative talents have united because of a common vision. They all believe in a series that was created by a visionary named Gene Roddenberry and the philosophy that it promoted — that all individuals are created equal and that one day all the peoples of the Earth will unite to live, work and play in harmony," they stated in a press release.

"Star Trek: Of Gods and Men" is produced in association with James Cawley of "Star Trek: New Voyages" and will be shot in part on the "New Voyages" set in New York state as well as locations in Los Angeles. A Christmas 2006 release is anticipated.

I'm shocked myself! :? But only because of Nichelle's hair. :(

Well, anyway... I'm going to read your post now. Properly, this time. ;)

Steve : This is not part of the New Voyages series. But it was put together by them in part.

They definately used the New Voyages Enterprise set. I would also say the CG work is done by them ( which is great news, cos those guys are fantastic cg artists. ). The script is also by their main man.

Plus, the guy posing in the second image with the Trek actors plays Kirk in New Voyages.

Things have kicked up a gear for these guys since Roddenberry's son became a producer on New Voyages. They certainly have some good contact within the Trek world!

I was pretty damn excited myself. :)

Oh, on the hair subject. At least she's still got her own! That's alot more than can be said for some old Trek actors. :P

One thing though. Being involved in a fan film as i am. I know the huge amount of work that goes into post production on a project like this. I'm amazed they filmed in July, and are only a few weeks away from release.

I would not be suprised if it's delayed slightly. But am keeping my fingers crossed we all get a christmas present of a new Trek episode. :)
