lets not forget....

This next gen console is out there and doing it right now. I think it will be the same story as the PS2. The one that got out there first will be the most popular. PS2 sold around a 100 million more consoles than Game Cube, or XBox.

You can't argue with that.

The PS 3 is the best graphics wise, has more cpu power. But its too expensive. Not out until march here in the UK either. I don't think it will catch up or be anywhere near as popular as the PS 2. The reasons that made PS 2 the most popular have all been thrown out for the PS 3.

I was really looking forward to the Wii. But the ad campaigns are just constantly pushing the "innovative" new stuff the Wii can do. Problem for me is i find the new stuff just does not appeal to me at all. I think they've gone too far personally. I also am not too keen on the I-Pod'esque design.

I'll have a go on a Wii at the first opportunity. But i just can't see myself taking to these new controls or ideas.

I only just got the hang of analogue sticks!

So, the PS 3 is too expensive for me. The Wii is just way too strange for me. That leaves me the X Box 360. Which is great, cos i'm very attached to my old X Box.

For my lifestyle, and bank balance, i'd have to go for a console that delivers more than one purpose. A HDTV DVD player built in is important to me, the X Box 360 has it, so does PS 3. Wii doesnt. It doesnt even have HD output!

My X Box is a whole media center for my house. I'm not going to get a machine that only plays games.

Wii games look great, hats off to Nintendo for the innovation i suppose. It's a shame those features do not appeal to me at all. I'm sure they will to some. The DS is just too far out there for me too. I don't want to test my brain, talk to my handheld, or raise puppy's! I'd go for a PSP thats more a traditional console like platform.

Ps 3 looks amazing, outside, and performs fantasticly. It will beat the others hands down i think. If you got the cash, I would go for it. Plus! It's got a Spiderman movie font for its logo! :P

But, my choice is the X Box 360.

Can we have a poll in this thread? X Box 360 v's Wii v's Playstation 3? it would be interesting.

I have a Wii on preorder. Can't afford a PS3 and probably won't until it drops drastically in price (plus, I don't know if BluRay won't turn into another Betamax considering a lot of folk know HD now).

So, Wii for me for now. I want to play games, Sony, I don't need a jack of all trades and master of none.

Betamax was way better than VHS!

Good point about the BluRay.

But, the PS 3 does have a hard drive like the X Box. And both have the capability to stream movies and music from your PC. So, even if the disc drive goes belly up, Betamax style. It'll still be a great media center. Especialy in tandem with a TV card in your PC!

Must be exciting waiting for the Wii! :)

You're braver than me. Not sure i could handle those controls. :P

Bottom line is, i would be very happy to own any of the new consoles. It's just a purely personal thing to which one is best for you. My advice is, chose carefully, cos they are all a lot money!

The clincher though could be the console which can be upgraded. Did i hear the PS 3 can be upgraded? To eventualy become more or less a PS 4 when the time comes?

I am still amazed at the progress i've seen over the years. All of them are superb really.

The new Mario game on the Wii is just stunning!

The Wii does have a standard controller you can buy, too, and it's backwardly compatible so my GC can go downstairs. Also, I like the fact it's tiny in comparison with the other two as space is an issue with all these consoles and set top boxes lying around.

I think, though, I just want to lie in bed and browse the web without  having my lappy breaking my knees :D

I pre-ordered a Wii Wednesday.  Cost me a fair bit but I get 4 games, another Wiimote and a bag for it that I might use.

Alot of reviews are giving it close to or actually 10/10 for the Wii version of Zelda, which is pretty much what I will be playing for several weeks after launch day.

I think the whole point of the controller is that you don't need to get used to it, you should just be able to play.  Of course I haven't had a chance to play one yet but I am hoping sometime over the next week as Nintendo are going around the country with demo units.  From what I have read of other peoples experiences, most of them thought the new controls were great and only a few complained it didn't live up to the hype.

QD : I know you get a regular controller aswell. But, i can see many games being geared to the new controller. If they are designed for that, then there won't be much point playing with an old style one. A bit like many DS titles.

I did read last night there's a Wii coming out possibly this time next year with DVD video playback. In japan only. Nintendo are considering releasing it worldwide. It will cost more than a standard Wii though.

Seele : 10/10 does not suprise me. I've watched all the trailers for it, and a couple of making off's. Nintendo have always had those great games. Zelda and Mario Galaxy on the Wii will definately go down as all time classics IMO.

Hope Nintendo bring out more than one big Mario game though for this platform.

Like i said before. It is a personal choice. All the next gen consoles offer different things for different tastes. For me the Media Center hook up to a pc on the X Box 360 is just as important as the gaming for me. Those media features are worth the extra £100 for me above the cost of the Wii. It delivers into my home more than £100 of products i'd have to buy to re create them. Saving me a lot of money.

I've been looking at the PS 3 on Play.com. £549!!!! That is ridiculous! £50 per game too!

Wii and X Box 360 games are priced at around £37.99 to £39.99.

I did say before, get the PS 3 if you got cash. But i really cannot see the justification in charging those prices, i've read up on the specs, it's just not worth it.

BluRay discs are so damn expensive to put games on. Which means you'll never get the huge variety of cheaper games that graced the PS 2. That was the hook that made parents buy it for christmas and Birthdays. That has now gone, totally.

If you're with me, and want the media features, and you also want the great games on the Wii, and you're thinking of getting a PS 3. I suggest buying a Wii, and a X Box 360 if you have that kind of cash! You'll still save around a £100 even after getting both. Then you have the cheaper games too.

The 360 is definitely FTW... I probably won't be getting the PS3 as my games are out on the 360.

My brother just waited in line all night for the Wii and he was 12th in line.  I get to go home now and see it  :D  I can't wait.

Go figure my work's Christmas party is the same day the Wii launches.  I was planning on picking it up after work and setting it up and playing Zelda for the night.  I can avoid the party to play the Wii but that seems wrong/anitsocial.

What am I to do??

So... I am a rabit Sony supporter. I have never owned an X-Box, and don't plan on buying a 360 anytime soon. The last Nintendo system I myself owned was an oldschool NES, and I don't plan on buying a Wii anytime soon... they honestly should have stuck with the name 'Dolphin'

While the PS3 is rumored to be retailing for CAD$600 to CAD$900 and with the whole rush we had at launch, I also don't plan on buying a PS3 anytime soon... but I will be. Once Christmas rush is over, and Boxing Week rolls around I'm sure the price tag on the machine will be brought down. If it's brought down enough I'll let you know how it preforms on December 26th!

All anybody has to do if they want the "away from gaming" options that the PS 3 offers, or the high end 360. Is get an old X Box, second hand for about £40 ( google for what that is if you're not british! :P )

And a "media center extender" for the X Box. this software is not made anymore, but easily bought on e-bay for £10 to £20.

Via Ethernet cable from your PC it will allow an out of the box X Box to stream any kind of movie file, music, or pictures you may have on your PC to your X Box, and onto your TV in the highest quality.

It won't be HD, but if you don't have a HD ready TV, who gives a monkeys?

So, you get nearly all the features included in a PS 3 that are not gaming related for about £50 hopefully. Add that to your £180 Wii or basic 360 and you're away! Saving £200 on your over priced Sony, Spiderman fonted machine thing.

If you got your X Box hooked up to a ethernet cable, you can play online for nothing to! If you plug it into a router. ( Was enjoying playing online, but i seem to have upset some German's on Forza motorsport, but that's a whole other story, and i' not going there. :P )

If I could, I would buy both... :?  I'm not a big Microsoft fan, as I already give them enough money from my PC software.  I currently have a PS2 and a GameCube, and both have their advantages.  As for "Next-gen" consoles, I'll probably end up with the Wii first, as it's less than half the price of the PS3.  Plus you can download old NES, S-NES, and N64 games to it, which is just awesome!!!  The PS3 looks very nice, and the graphics are supposed to be just mindblowing, but that price tag is mindblowing too...  I'll have to wait until it drops quite a bit (and any bugs are worked out--remember the 360 recalls?) before I even consider purchasing one.

Buying a second hand X Box is not giving Microsoft money! :P

I do agree with many anti Microsoft points of view. But, it has to be said, when you compare the money paid for your Operating system, compared to a £50 PS 3 game or nearly £40 Wii/360 game, what is better value?

Many games nowadays can be completed in under ten hours. Justice League heroes took me less than ten hours easily. That's better value than a DVD movie, but compared to the lifetime of a Microsoft OS i think MS stands up pretty well in that area, and represents good value for money. In a world of severe rip offs that is! :P

I'm playing devils advocate btw. :P

So uh yeah, got a Wii.  Set it up last night, put in Zelda tonight.  Perfect way to end a bad week at work.

Now if I can only bring myself to take out Zelda to try out those other games... probably not.

Did you know...

To Make a High Definition Game (for X360, PSiIi) , these days, is costing companies, around $8 million!

Now image how high prices are gunna get when theres a really top notch game appearing...

They'd have to in some cases sell 40,000 copies of the game, before they make a profit ... at current prices.

There's no end to what the Playstation 3 can do!

for what it costs tho, i'd want it to grill my steaks, pour my wine, and wash up after! ...and maybe make coffee. :D

The Wii, and Xbox 360 cannot grill anything, shocking i know. A huge oversight by the Japanese video game giant Nintendo, and Microsoft maybe? Even the Atari 2600 back in 1978 could warm up a pie quite well if you left it on for a week! ( no memory cards beck in those days )

So, come on Nintendo, and Microsoft! get with the times! or be left behind!

A tasty snack after a vigorous workout with a Wii remote would be ideal. But, sadly the Wii is lacking in the grilling area. *tuts*

I am not being serious btw.

So, the Wii has outsold the PS3, so far by 2 to 1!

Hardly suprising due to Sony not having enough PS3's to sell ( there are none in Europe at all!;).

Wii's are selling for £600 here on Amazon.co.uk right now! About £400 on Ebay. If i had ordered one, i would sell it now! :D Buy another later!

PS3's are selling for up to $1,500 on ebay! Most going for $800

If you looks at November on Ebay....

From November 17th to November 24th 14,675 Sony PS3 consoles have changed hands for an average price of $1,186.63!

In comparison the Nintendo Wii sold 26,708 times from 19th-24th of November on eBay. The average price for the Wii was $412.

Price seems to be helping the Wii sell. That and the novelty factor, and the Christmas family activity kind of thing.

Is the Wii a novelty that will fall away in sales?

Will Nintendo climb out of 3rd spot?

Will Nintendo tone down the unique innovative styles of gaming if it flops after the initial novelty of it?

Personally, i doubt the Wii or the PS3 will replace the XBox 360 as #1.

There's alot of good and bad for each console, as has been said before here.

I'm gonna try and do a poll. We'll find out which is the most wanted console at OTF! :)
