Greetings!
As winter descends upon the many lands of the civilized half of the globe, it brings snow to many such parts, just as it has time and time again, year after year since the beginning of recorded history.
In this time of holiday cheer, I would like to take a moment to remind you all that roads with snow on them are slipperier than roads without snow.
Sure, it seems like a no-brainer when a person just comes out and says it like that, but without fail, year after year as consistently as the snow does come, people forget. People drive like there isn't snow, and this is how people die.
So, just in case you missed anything, let's review physics! - Roads with snow or slush are slipperier than roads without snow. - Roads with ice and or fresh snow are slipperier still. - Ice happens when slush gets cold. - Ice is sometimes very hard to see.
So for those of you who need to re learn how to drive in snow, please take it easy, because if you don't, you'll end up rear ending the people like Jessna and me, and that will make us sad.
Thanks! ~Eagle~ Manager of Safety Practices*
*I made that up just now.

Amen brother! Also, remember to gradually slow down instead of slamming on your breaks at the last second. While you may have excellent tires and can stop even on a slippery dime, some of us have less excellent tires and actually need a bit of warning to slow down on icy roads. Of course, one would hope we'd be watching for the lights in advance....

When it's really really really bad, turn off your freaking radio/cd player, roll down your windows and listen while you drive.
TRUST me on this one It just might save your life someday.......

Can I reiterate the classic-
'Stay in your homes!'
Oh, and considering the tornado London had yesterday-
'Stay in a cupboard!'

wait...wait..wait... KImmy, why would you roll down the window? Seems to me it would just make you die quicker or get hurt faster if you hit that looming tree ahead...:? I'm crap for driving in snow and ice so I'll be staying at home ,curled up on the couch, sipping cocoa and laughing at the cars going by that are hitching a ride on the back of wreckers.
Stay home!

I was really freaking out so I called my (expert driver) brother in law and asked him some tips to get me home safely. He said this "shut off your radio, drive as slow as you need to, probably around 10 mph or so, and roll down your window, you can listen to your tires and you can actually hear them as they hit, now pay attention, you can stop a spin out very very easily so long as you do what I said" I got home safely.
Ever since that day, if I do get out stuck somewhere I follow the advice and it works.

Staying home's great, if you are home when it hits, but sometimes you're out and you have to get home

D in my head I'm seeing a typical crazy blizzard that we get up here and in THAT kind of weather, where you can't see the front end of your car from all the flurries going past your windshield, and the snow is halfway up your car and you've already been in the ditch once, the best thing you can do is find your local diner and park it until the skies and roads are visible again. Of course in that kind of weather the diner has no power so it's sometimes warmer to sit outside in your vehicle with the heat on, but if you're a good little Albertan you've got extra blankets and possibly a sleeping bag in your car anyway so you can have a cuddle party!
I speak from experience. Although we didn't have any blankets, we did find a deck of cards! Go fish can only last you so long. Eventually we gave up trying to get to Edmoton for my cousin's wedding and drove back to Calgary where my parents had been living at the time. It took us 6 hours to go to Crossfield and back - it's supposed to be a twenty minute drive to get to Crossfield.
Kimmers, didn't your car fill up with snow while driving with the window down?
