Who cares? Really.. are you that materialistic that you would show off what you got?

Isn't Christmas supposed to be more than what you got?  You'd think so, especially for someone who's an adult and not a child.

I care. :)

I also think it's quite interesting finding out what peoples likes are. Especialy in a community such as this where people share their likes and hobbies among friends etc.

For example, this being a sci fi genre site, i would presume many people got some kind of collectibles of that genre. Which i'm really into.

I think that was the angle here, not a ticklist of material posessions. Or, i got more than you.

"are you that materialistic?" jeez, climb in a time machine, and get back to the Soviet Union. :P

It's my guess this thread was meant as a bit of fun. Or a chance for some memebers to present a window into their hobbies, likes, or interests. Or even as a means to recommend a book, or item which somebody recieved.

I did not get very much at all in terms of presents. We're saving pennies here for a much needed break in the new year. Had a fantastic Christmas, and alot of fun though.

But, i did get this, a RC k9! :D

its taken its place next to my Dalek on my rack in the living room. If anybody is thinking of getting one, it makes a great display item, and a good toy if ur a big kid like me. *L*

I got a very good reminder this Christmas as to how blessed I am to have the family I have.  I mean, there are issues there, and there are quarrels and there are some "scarred for life" things, but there is just so much love despite all that.

As for "material" things I received for Christmas, I got a ton of random things (as is my mother's way - she's not happy unless we have five hundred things to open) but the highlight was my dad bought me all the back issues of the Stargate magazine that I don't have, with the exception of the first two issues which are no longer available.  How totally awesome is that?

The best gifts that I GAVE...a big huge fuzzy blanket to my best friend (trust me, it was well received), a work of art for my mother that she would never buy for herself because she would feel self-indulgent, and a small Chinese caligraphy set for my sister.  I gave dad stuff too, but it wasn't so totally awesome as those three things and mom got him an ipod so that kind of beats the heck out of a Sherman's Lagoon comic book and a battery for his remote control truck *l*.

Polson : Sounds a great Christmas to me. :)

Mums are great at those random things! I cant wait for them! LOL

The Stargate magazine is a great example of somebody giving something which really means alot to somebody. It's special because somebody took time, and trouble to track it down, and really thought of you. Those are the best gifts. :)

Nobody should ever feel guilty or bad about what they give if thought went into it, and it was given with all the best intentions. You can buy something small which says so much, there's no need to start comparing.

It really underlines that nobody should assume we are going to litter this with "My I-Pod is better than your I-Pod" posts.

Kelly : Poor little Sis! :( I'll give my K9 a pat on the head for you. :P

I'm considering an RC K9... question is, do I really need one? I mean, Bob Dalek might be lonely but....

Oh well :D

What did I get? An interlocking twin sword and Wii Play :D

The best gift was a gift I purchased for my mom :) to make up for the past 3 years I did not purchase her a Christmas present. She can wear this with all her other artifacts.  Yes, I got her a ring that says mom on it :)

I also got a money order, along w/ 5 green in which I can buy and drive my passion for technical gadgets.  I got some slippers from the Hudson Bay Co, to keep my feet warm at night and during the day.

I got some chocolates to keep me sweet, and delightful :)

I forgot, there was a second gift I got that was, well, a very emotional gift.  As some of you know, just before last Christmas my grandfather, "Papa" as I knew him, died of infection after a brief battle with the cancer that had completely disintigrated his digestive system.  Shortly after his death, I noticed my mother wearing a small unattractive ring that Papa had made in his rock tumbler when I was a little girl.  I mentioned to her that it was mine and she suddenly looked very guilty and said, "Oh, sorry, did you want it back?  I've just been wearing it since my dad died because it reminds me of him." (she told me recently that the second I said it was mine she remembered that it was and felt really bad for having taken it)  I told her it was fine and that I wasn't much for rings and probably wouldn't wear it anyway.

This Christmas I opened up a box with a little puff of cotten and the ring inside with a note from mom thanking me for lending it to her for a year and how much that meant to her, but she wanted me to have it now.  She said that she thinks she's ready to take it off now.  I'm wearing it now, and while I may not always wear it because I'm rough on rings, I definitely can't lose it now *l*.  It'll be one of those weird little treasures that nobody else quite understands.

Yarrrr, I don't get to do Christmas with my family until January, because I'm a working stiff to the nth degree. :P

I DID get to do Christmas with some of my friends and roomates though.  I got a Steven Seagal boxset, the Back to the Future boxset, a She-Hulk poster from 1980, and a dilophosaurus.  Also, the original colors page from page eight of Peter Parker Spider-man (yay! )  and a map of Detroit (whuh? o_0).  The best gift of all was being able to take a day off and crash with a bunch of friends.

Oh!  And Kristen got me Cheese Nips..*l* Which is an inside joke that's been going on for over a year now.

I've just read through all of these and it made me smile.. Citron not everyone is ' showing off ' we all do remember what Christmas is about.. But you have to remember not everyone is religous. Not everyone celebrates Christmas.

For me it family. We have Anth's Nan stay for a few days, shes a lovely Lady, and our Christmas starts when she arrives.  Pressie's are great, because who ever says not getting anything is telling porky pigs...

My best pressie this year was Anth cooking Christmas Dinner,  also hearing that I'm gonna be an Aunty, some pink PJ's and a really nice fluffy pink dressing gown.

Hmmm... my daughter got me a lovely Alanis DVD. The funny thing is, that I already have this DVD (which is to say, that I have everything about/of/from her, but it's the thought that counts. I also got perfume from my loved one, and chocolate. The big package with presents from my family is expected to arrive in January. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :D :P

Materialistically, the best present I got this year was an A4 sketchbook from one of my friends. It's sooooo incredibly pretty that I can sit there just looking at it and running my fingers over it. I daren't even draw in it yet, I need to make sure that my drawing's up to the standard first. :? :D

I got a shirt from my Mam, money from other family members, and various other things which I won't list here but which made me smile. And I don't know if you can count people as Christmas presents, I don't think you can, but if you could, I'd be such a spoiled brat this year. :D Qualitatively, obviously, not quantitavely.

What made Christmas special this year kind of goes back to what Polson was saying - despite all the problems, there is a lot of love, and I can finally see it. And I can finally show it when I'm happy - unless you know me really well, you probably won't get the significance of that, but trust me, it's a major thing. :?

And on a side note... I dunno about you, but if I was starting a thread about being competetive about presents, I wouldn't start with "I got nothing". :( :D

Anyone who knows me will know I've developed an obsession with faeries so a lot of my family bought me faery figurines. My sister got me a gorgeous one in a long gypsy-style dress (although it's actually an angel, but gorgeous all the same) and my cousin got me a huge gothic style fairy and the wings surround a mirror, it's lovely and in pride of place on my desk, I even moved my dalek to make room for it! I got a faery sat on a unicorn too wearing a long green dress with huge green wings, it's stunning!

I also got to havea  giggle with my family and to know that everyone really appreciated the gifts I bought them :)

Let's see, I got a bunch of neat useful stuff from my parents which rocked. I also got a lovely picture of my brother's family, too bad I couldn't be with my family on Christmas, I still haven't got to see my nephew Noah. :(

I did work on Christmas though so I'll be getting some nice time and a half pay! \o/
