I actually like the idea of a user defined chat top and we should have 8 different ones. One for each show (TOS, ANI, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT), one for the TOS movies, one for the TNG movies.

I agree with Annie 150%  I'll even help supply the cookies to make her work  well ill help too!
In addition to her 2 cents, thinking the other way, have user defined chattop based on affiliation selected, borg, cardasian, civilian, starfleet, romulan etc......

I also like the idea of selecting your own chattop. I'm not sure about one for every series, because besides ENT and TOS, the others would look very similar because LCARS systems didn't change much after TNG...
I do like the chattop based on your genre. I think that would be more fun and practical.
But I do like both ideas!

I vote for a new one entirely. The CCC got one, and its time TF did too.
I didn't like the 40th Aniversery chat top, while it was made very well, it was hard to read and wasn't very appealing to me.

I am not in favour of changing the Ten Forward chat top. The vintage LCARS concept is one of the few remaining ideas left from the original Ten Forward room. It's simple, clean, and effective. Why mess with success?
I'm not opposed to an option allowing visitors to choose a "skin" from the list. If we do this though the vintage design should be the default.

I personally would like to keep the LCARS design too, but maybe just jazz it up. You know, have a Borg interface, or Klingon, or Vulcan, so on... Or maybe how the interfaces have changed on Federation ships through the years, like one for TOS, one for TNG, so on... Or chattops based on each series, I think Aeon mentioned that too, with the chatter chosing which one they want.

I wasn't saying we get rid of the LCARS design, i ment an updated look
in a scene from Nemesis where Picard tells troi to ram the scemitar, the lcars panel had a glossy and beveled design.
I think i remember a member doing a chat top that would fit this perfectly, but I don't remember who.

For once...I totally agree with Andrew.
Hmmm...imagine that. I know out with the old, yada yada yada...but some of us, cling to the old, or we are old, or whatever....
Anyway, yeah! Make the old one a default for those of us who don't wanna mess with 10 years of success.

No, actually I like the standard one. Though it is nice to see it changing every now and again. But not too often!
How about you just scrap D'Deridex and Rotarran (I had to go look to see 1, what theyw ere actaully called and 2, how to spell them) Honestly though, how often are they used? it must be taking up space in some sort of tecky-net way or form!
Gimme a harry potter room! Im telling you, the new book is hot topic google wise, and the new film will be out soon too! OTF prides itself on being a family friendly site, welcoming to younger members and how many young folk (that sounds so old! are interested in lord of the rings, trek and star wars?
We just have to learn to accept new concepts... Thats my opinion, therefore it is correct!

Tia has a point, though I think we're not in need of a new chat room. I think, it's not enough that FY focuses on Lord of the Rings only. There is Harry Potter, and Narnia, Eragorn, and whatnot else that they could implement into their genre.
But... this is about the chat tops, not new chat rooms. Maybe we should start a new thread about it?

I'm partial to LCARS, but not everyone is. A choose your own chat top option would eliminate trouble from people who cling to the past or those who are flying high in the future.

Thanks guys, for all of your feedback. A lot of what you've said is stuff that's been floating around the EC mailing lists for a while and it's nice to know that quite a few of you are open to changing the chattops! We'll let you know how things develop.
