I'm not sure if we had a thread like this before, but to quote the EC: "What he heck, let's try it...". So, Tia ordered, and I obeyed.
Welcome to this new thread, where we try to discuss if we should replace the Rotarran and D'Deridex with something else.
To make it a bit of my thread, too, I'd also suggest, that we should discuss if Minas Tirith should stay the way it is or not. I personally think that it'd be a treat if Minas Tirith becomes a true FY chat again, with more than only the LOTR genres. No offense, boys and girls, but FY is not only about the Fellowship of the Ring.
And to end this post with another quote (Seven of Nine this time): Discussion shall commence now.

Keep the D'D, which gets used, turn the Rotarran into a general sci fi room and turn MT into a general fantasy room.

Awww! and I thought it was going to be all about me!
MT needs to expand a bit more deff! Also, is it me or is the chat top a bit on the small side? i keep clicking wrong buttons and have to squint a bit to read all the very important stuff im writing in the box! (it is not old age!
OK, so babel says DD gets used, fair enough... rotarrian doesnt! or atleast not enough!
It must be using up space that could be used for more important things like a proper thread all about me!
Back to MT, anyone read fan fic? Well, there s alot of ideas about fantasy worlds crossing over, Harry turning up in middle earth, Hobbits in Hogwarts, ect. They all share the same basic ideas so why not have them all together?
Generalised fantasy room with avvys from all over, and a few generic ones maybe? Or keep MT, replace rotarran with a generic fantasy room. Might encourage more visitors. Personally I love fantasy (Mainly HP) but not into LOTR... Got to move with the times folks!

google harry potter chat, go on, see what comes up? NOTHING OF INTEREST!
there are no proper Harry Potter chat rooms except the chamber of chat that uses some sort of 3D teckystuff and it never works! Plus its seriusly weird and only popular with proper kiddies.
The rest of them are forum based.
And you know fine well that over the next year google searches are going to jump up for Harry Potter.

Here's an idea . . .
if we can apply different skins to Ten Forward, why not to other rooms?
For example
The D'Deridex becomes a more general Trek room with Romulan. Klingon and maybe other race skins (like Borg, Cardie, and so forth)
OR we add those skins to TF, making just one Trek room
The D'D would then be freed up to be a general sci fi room, with avvies from all over the place - again, a range of skins available, like SG1, BSG, Doctor Who . .
The Rotarran could become a general fantasy room. Avatars would include Potter, things like Willow and Krull and anything esle we can think of.
In my idea, the three main rooms would remain ST, SW and LotR. With the skins idea we could also, of course, apply it to the CCC with Rebel .Imperial, Dark Jedi etc skins.
This would instantly revamp our chat rooms, make them more appealing in terms of flexibility, and would allow us to include more search terms for search engines to latch onto, eg, Potter, Doctor Who, etc
What does anyone think of this?

If we were to retain TF as a purely 'Starfleet' room and the D'D as a backup Trek room then I would favour
Rotarran becomes general sci fi
MT becomes general fantasy (as in my view MT is strugglign for clientele)
TF and CCC to remain the same
There is a huge demand from our members for more range, with other sci fi and fantasy worlds brought in. We can easily accomplish this by using our existing rooms and it is utterly senseless to retain the rooms as they are. We need some new impetus and ideas. We need new blood. If we can introduce general sci fi and fantasy rooms it will pull in many, many more punters.
In this, our tenth year, is it not time to secure our future by putting the foundations in place for that future on top of what we have already built?

I like that idea very much. I agree that ccc and tf should remain the same. MT is struggling and would benefit from a make over, as for the ideas for the others, im all for it.
I especially like the idea that we get two new rooms, one for general sci fi, (loving teh DrWho and staragte ideas! and one for general fantasy, but keeping the roots as star trek and star wars!
yes I know I have no say nor can iIsay 'hey I will help as much as I can' cos well, I cant, but I love OTF and its not good seeing it slowly festering away! so uhm, powers that be, make it so!!!

Well Pols Stargate could be included with avatars and a skin. As of itself it is probably not enough to justify a stand-alone room BUT add in doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, all wirh their own skin, and you have a viable concept.

Babel's idea sounds a good one.
Keep Ten Forward and CCC as Trek and Star Wars rooms, with the option of choosing your own skins.
Turn MT, DD and Rottaran into General Sci-fi, General Fantasy and General chat rooms.
I know I've only been here for a few months, but you have the foundation of a hugely popular site here, and by limiting it to only Trek, Star Wars and LOTR's you are missing out on a huge number of visitors. As Tia says, Harry Potter will probably be the most googled thing on the web when the latest and last book comes out later in the year.

I have an Idea, and it would probably get shot down as soon as I mention it, cause alot fo the higher ups don't like it.
But if you want to attract members, hows about Anime?
I've been around Anime forum communities for a very long time (Almost as long as I've been a member here), and I know that something like this would peak the interest of some of the hard core users, and many young users.
Anime isn't just for children, and most certainly isn't all Pokemon, DBZ, and Yu-Gi-Oh. I know many Anime fans who are in their late 40's who have been watching since Anime's (As it is today) birth (IE. Astroboy and Kimba the White Lion).
OTF has many Anime fans, but if they want to communicate with other people who share their interests, they ether have to try and get others who aren't into it to talk about it, or go somewhere else, like I have on many occasions.
There are many genre's, and ALOT of subject matter to draw from, Including Sci-fi and Fantasy, which is the heart and soul of this community that we've all helped build.

Lzrman dont you be using BIG LETTERS in my thread!
from what I have seen of Anime, it is not just for kids! And I know exactly why those 47 yr old men watch it! lol! 
However, I think what everyone is trying to say is that OTF needs to expand its horizons a bit and yet still keep true to its beginings.
Anime could feature in both rooms as there is anime fantasy and amine sci fi. Plus they are cool avys!
And Pols, if we have a room all about you, we need one all about me too! Actualy its more important for me to get my own room cos I am great.

Err... My concerns are mostly with Fantasy. See, I'm not a huge LotR fan. The movies are fine and all, but it's never really clicked with me.
Now, I love the idea of chosable chat skins. Along with everything thats been said my two cents would be, don't forget the HUGELY popular Final Fantasy, Warcraft, and Diablo series. Final Fantasy alone would probably double our number of active chatters, while Star Trek and Star Wars are on the decline, Square-Enix is now pumping out like two to three games a year. These people are also talented... the higher tier of computer geekdom.
