The Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and new companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) are set to star in a new animated Doctor Who mini-series, the BBC has announced. Written by Alan Barnes, the 13-part 'The Infinite Quest' will air as part of weekly companion show Totally Doctor Who. Anthony Head will also return, voicing new character Baltazar.

*LMAO @ QD* :D

I did get excited about Torchwood, i enjoyed it a hell of alot, the finale was brilliant i thought, and then was happy to hear i might get to see more K9, a big favourite from my childhood in the upcoming sarah jane series.

I agree though, i am starting to feel its getting a bit too much now.

I was hoping British television would take a lead from Dr Who, and maybe realize that you can take chances. Realizing the public will watch shows like Dr Who or shows of the sci fi genre in general, rather than churning out dull, depressing, kitchen sink drama's, soaps, and lame police shows, gardening, and decorating, and reality TV.  *groans*

Hopefully creating some original programs like they are still prepared to do in the U.S, rather than just playing it safe again and milking the Dr Who universe dry. Surely somebody somewhere in British TV has an idea that somebody would be willing to take a chance on following the success of Dr Who?

Bring back Blakes 7 i say! What a show that was! :P

I am serious btw, i would really like to see Blakes 7 again. Some of you may have picked up on the fact i'm very nostalgic about old sci fi etc, i still watch my favourite old shows. Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica ( not the depressing wobbly camera version, the old one. :P ) , Space 1999 ( i was really cheering at the millenium new years party, cos our Moon made it through 1999 and stayed in earth orbit! :P ).

So, if you're not brave enough to make up something new British TV, how about a Space 1999! or Blakes 7 remake!

K9 is not going to be in the Sarah Jane series? :( Damn!

I laughed loads when she pulled out that sonic lipstick. What we have to remember though is the series is for CBBC, a childrens program. So really the live action stuff is shared out with DR Who, for all the family, Torchwood for adults, and Sarah Jane for younger viewers ( and me :P ).

On the other hand, however, you need only view the Law and Order franchise, or the various CSIs to see how different shows, with a similar theme, but with vastly different tones and outlooks work well together and happily co-exist.

Although I do agree that more of the same isn't a great idea. We already have live-version, why bother with animated?

Though on the other hand, the animated bits of The Invasion proved its worth; and animation does have its advantages.

Quincy, that's a very good point you make.

To underline it, i do like two Law and Order shows, but not the one that started it. So, i think that does suggest how different they are, or can be, even if they are from the same pot as it were.

I happen to like all the CSI's, but i know some do not, just to underline your point further.

My frustration is with British television. I just wish both British TV and the film industry too would start to get as imaginative with their output as they do in the U.S. As i've said before Dr Who has showed that the British public embrace shows of such a genre. Dr Who is also a marketable show all over the globe. Why should the USA dominate the media? They only do because they offer variety, and give people what they want across all genres. As a result, my TV and film viewing is about 99% from the USA. I wish it was otherwise.

I am fed up of British TV and films only being known for costume drama's and dingy depressing housing estate drama or soap like productions. We also get a few lame CSI immitations, More recently we've had London ganster films, but they are getting old hat now too.

I admit some shows do not work in Britian. I can't imagine CSI -  Watford for example. :P

I noticed ITV have a series called "prime evil" in their schedule, that looks ok, with some extinct cg animals and stuff running riot! But that's about it aside from Dr Who and its spin offs on BBC.

When kids can make CG scenes at home in their rooms, some of it quite stunning ( just google for some of David Moss's Battlestar Galactica fan works. Or take a look at Star Trek New Voyages fan films, or most impressively the Star Wars I.M.P.S films. ) . There can be hardly any budget restraints these days on CG. That just leaves some work on film sets, which if you produce a series that's good enough to run for a while is something that will pay for itself many times over.

I know that's more work than finding a big old house and shooting yet another Jane Austin movie, and Judy dench getting another Oscar nomination, but it would be well worth it! Surely?
