Vista came out today in Australia. As a salesperson, I got to dinker around with it a bit. So... What did I think?

I'll admit Vista had me excited. When I first learned we got the physical stock, I went an agape "Aww!" Which is Quincy's equivalent of Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude!

I got in at eight and immediately went to the Vista machines. First impressions were okay, although I didn't really delve into the features, or even explored in depth that Aero feature, or anything. In fact, I treated Vista as simply XP with a new coat of paint. Or, if you like, a glorified XP.

I sold the only Vista machine today, but I'd sold it based on the hardware merits, not the fact that it had Vista as the OS.

In fact, my perceptions of Vista were negative after one disturbing incident this afternoon. Here's the reason why.

Our stores got a press package. You know, promotional stuff like fliers, pamphlet handouts and so on. There were two discs inside with Vista demos. Guess who got volunteered (ie picked) to install it.

I shoved it in. First machine had it okay. But the demo would only work on Vista Home Premium. I shrugged, installed it on a Premium version machine.

When I got back, both demo programs had crashed after I loaded it!

This was so not a good thing to happen, especially on day one.

But what, the peanut gallery says change the settings and so forth? Hey, if it's not as simple as chucking the CD in, installing, then double clicking the demo icon, then it's not an easy to use operating system and whoever developed it should be in jail.

Huh. Vista? Great screensavers and look, but at first impressions, pfft.

I haven't tried it, I will tomorrow.

I've installed Vista Ultimate Edition four times. I've never had any problems at all. Niether has anybody i know. My machine is practically rock bottom as far as running Vista goes too.

I have been running Vista since October, have got nothing but praise for it.  I recently installed XP again on my other HD, so i can boot between the two any time. After being on XP for just a short time i was rushing to get back to Vista. XP seems so old and clunky after being on Vista for four months.

I have two gripes with it though. One is the PC requirements needed to run it at all. Let alone what is needed to run it with all the bells and whistles working. My PC is running it at level one. Which means no Aero feature, or 3D features.

I believe Microsoft should be shouting a bit louder about the fact that you'll need 500mb of ram plus, a good video card etc to run Vista as you see it on the commercials. They are saying it, they do have a web page which tests your PC for compatibilty and it tells you what you need if you fall short. But, many people do not know alot about PC's many will assume Vista will run, when it won't. Or they will want to know why their Vista does not look as pretty as the pictures of it they've seen.

My main gripe is this 10 install license. You buy Vista, and  install it, then you have just 9 more installs left before your copy becomes an illegal one which you cannot activate! 9 installs left sounds alot, but what if you like re-formatting regularly? You have several computers? Or Vista is bought by schools etc? Those 10 installs will go quite quickly.

It's like buying a car, and finding out you can only drive X amount of miles before you are forced to buy another new one.

You will probably not notice many differences when you use Vista in a shop as a demo for instance, beyond cosmetic ones. Cos it is really a case of you having to use it as you use a PC for real at home.

Having used it for 4 months i find everything is just so much easier. The reasons are small details ( too many to list, or remember here ) which just make using it a breeze. The acid test is going from Vista and then using XP again. XP is horrible after Vista!

My PC is just so much more stable with Vista loaded. I've heard people say i'll wait until the bugs are ironed out. I've not found any. I know people like to have a go at Microsoft, but i'm struggling to find fault with Vista. I guess those that are shouting it down have not used it as much as i have, if they had, no way would they be complaining about it. Surely i can't be lucky? having the only bug free and incident free copy of Vista on the planet? *L* I'm not that great with PC's either to tweak it. It just runs great, and it's a pleasure to use. My PC does not know whats happening, i don't shout at it, or call it names hardly ever these days. :P

I too have been running vista for over 2 weeks now and when get used to the interface it is actually a LOT easier to use then any of the previous windows  versions.

I also have to agree on stability. I have a very recent laptop, so space and performance never was a problem. However with XP it still ended going MIA every now and then. The new core information processing used in vista has solved this.

Only irritating part is that I have a copy without windows media player, and I so wanted to see the vista version *is sad* :P … Other than that, I say M$ has gone above and beyond normal standards.

Not to mention the new office 2007, it also took a while to get used to … but now that I got the gang of it wouldn’t dear going back to 2003. 2007 is faster and easier to work with !
