Peter Jackson wants to turn his two-film adaptation of The Hobbit into a trilogy, according to reports.
The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog said additional shooting could take place next summer in New Zealand to make up the three films.
Since director Peter hinted at Comic-Con earlier this month that he'd like to do a third film, the idea has been discussed with studio Warner Bros, producer Fran Walsh and writer-producer Philippa Boyens.
"If we're going to do it, we have to make a decision soon," a source close to the production was quoted as saying. "It's strongly driven by the filmmakers' desire to tell more of the story."
Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Sir Christopher Lee, Sir Ian McKellen, Billy Connolly and Benedict Cumberbatch are among those starring in the Lord Of The Rings prequel.
The first Hobbit film, An Unexpected Journey, is set to come out in December, followed by the second, There And Back Again, in 2013.
