Well, all I know is IL&M will reportedly provide special visual effects for the film. But I share the same feelings. Yay! ... even they're Star Wars-ish.
It's not a bad thing... it just means ST ships could win in a fight.
And to anyone who feels the need to go to youTube and find an animation where some Star Wars ship is destroying the Enterprise... I'm just kidding. We don't need to start that debate here.

http://trekmovie.com/2008/01/22/star-trek-looking- for-little-people/
The extras casting agency working on the new Star Trek movie is currently seeking little people for background work on film. They are specifically looking for men and women who are 4′4″ or shorter (age range 18-60, any ethnicity). It is not an open casting (like the one in October), but being done using Hollywood casting notices. The actors are required for shooting in mid-March.
4ft 4in or shorter?! Darn!! Foiled again! Dangit.. Im 5in too tall to be in Star Trek!! ARGH!!!! Why couldn't they be looking for people who are 4ft 9in or shorter?! Fiddlesticks!

Chris Doohan has gained a role in Star Trek and will be filming it soon. From the hints it seems he'll be an engineer. Which is a fine fitting sendoff to his dad, James Doohan.

Meanwhile ST New Voyages star James Cawley has also landed a role in Star Trek. http://trekmovie.com/2008/01/23/james-cawley-to-ap pear-in-new-star-trek-movie/

In addition to the 3 Spock's in the movie (dunno who's playing Kid Spock) looks like there'll be 2 James Kirk's. 12 year old actor Jimmy Bennet has been cast as Young Kirk while 15 year old Spencer Daniels has been cast as young George Kirk (Jim Kirk's bro).
Seems there'll be alot of jumping thru time in this film

The official movie site now has the trailer for different countries. For now you can see the teaser for England, France, Spain, Germany, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand. More to come of course
http://www.paramount.com/startrek/
The Russian Trailer has the history of the Russian space program instead of the American.
Edit: They have now added the Mexican language trailer.
AAAAnd there's a forum....

Hmm...seems thar be Klingons on the starboard bow in the Star Trek! Hopefully they'll be TOS era ones and not the bumpy headed ones.

Although, it is funny how they never explain that whole bumpy forehead thing. It's like the one glaring unconsistancy in Star Trek and they turn it into a "we don't talk about it" joke.

Polson: In Enterprise there was a whole 2 parter devoted to explaining the forhead thing. Basically we can all blame Capt Archer.

See, this is the kind of argument I try to make with the Star War prequels. You might not like it, but they're still canon, and they're still Star Wars.
And yes, I have to bring Star Wars every where.

Quoting: cleo_soul Star Trek Pushed Back to May, 2009
Seems that now that the writer's strike is over all the big wigs are looking at their upcoming films and doing some reshuffling. Therefore Star Trek is NOT gonna be out this Christmas. Instead it'll be out May 8th, 2009. This MIGHT be a good thing cuz then they can do some good work on it instead of being harried. But..we'll see.
Tons more info at the URL below.

They've finally announced who's playing Little Spock (aka Spock as a kid). Playing Little Spock is 12 yr old actor Jacob Kogan (who looks eerily like Zack Quinto...which is a good thing) http://trekmovie.com/2008/02/27/meet-little-spock
Unfortunatly Child Spock won't have any scenes with the Kirk boys.... ah well...

Pakistani actor Faran Tahir has been cast as the captain of some starship. Dunno what the name of the character is other than being well a Federation Captain (and apperantly a character integral to the storyline). He will soon be seen playing Raza in "Iron Man"

Simon Pegg, who takes over the role of Scotty in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie, told SCI FI Wire that he's completed his role but is signed on for two more films if the first one hits.
"We did it. My work is done," Pegg said in an interview. "It was very cool."
Pegg declined to say much about the film, but acknowledged that he was awed to portray chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, the role originated by James Doohan in the original Star Trek TV series and subsequent films.
"It was definitely intimidating just to be there and see it all," the British actor (Shaun of the Dead) said. "Of course, I'm such a fan."
Star Trek is slated to open May 8, 2009
