For those of us who 'lived' the adventure (learning the concepts behind warp propulsion, Starfleet Academy, designed our own ships, etc.)...what technical gripes do you have?
Anyone notice how all these cadets (third year cadets) became officers overnight? Uhura is first addressed as 'cadet'...then lieutenant...then cadet again...
I don't think you'd give a third year cadet command of a starship, no matter how gifted...
Ensign Chekov is given the CONN? Are there no higher officers on the bridge?
Engineering looks like the inside of a Borg Cube...

Nog was a third-year cadet as well and received a battlefield promotion to Ensign. After one year of service, he was made Lieutenant JG; and 6 months later, he became chief engineer of DS9.
That's what I call a career.
Or Saavik... she was a cadet as well, but was referred to as Lieutenant.
It's all fascinating, I'd say...
Oh... I just noticed we're talking about the new movie. Oopsie.
