Star Trek 2:

-Will not be a remake
-Will feature the TOS synergy more as you remember it from the show
-Will include a mix of classic elements to reward existing fans for their investment in the old Star Trek cannon

Cannot wait! Want movie nao plz. They're currently on their first script draft, with release date probably later than June 29, 2012.

Very easily. A remake would have been considered something that used an existing villain, such as Khan, or Kurge from Star Trek III.

well if they are trying to do a whole reset deal, starting with the one that came out recently then Im not sure how Kahn could fit in the new movie series they are trying. be a cool idea to see how they can handle it since they pretty much rebooted the movie part of the star trek franchise. I know in the books they still havethe originally time line going with the books in the tng/ds9/voyager time line.

but with the whole reboot in the movie franchise, I wonder how everything would work out now in the 'new' timeline with the tng/ds9/voyager timeline since they changed the old tos timeline

They didn't necessarily reboot everything. If they wanted Khan to show up, which it looks like they don't, the Eugenic Wars still happened before the first movie and Khan could still be floating in space.

In which case we'd have a remake of Star Trek The Original Series: The Space Seed instead of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Most people unfamiliar with Prime Canon (from the original universe) tend to gloss over the fact that most of Wrath was due to the events of Space Seed, notably Khan's obsession with Kirk and the motives behind it.

Thus, to get Wrath, there would have to be a remake of Space Seed, which is too much to cram in to one movie.

Plus it's unoriginal. There are way too many remakes happening lately anyway.

Bad or unoriginal as it may be - I'll still buy the movie.
