Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Capt Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, carried the Olympic torch through Croydon, South London.
He said that he would "never forget" being a torchbearer.
"I have attended world premieres of big movies that have not had the excitement and the sense of pleasure and pride that people are exhibiting today," the actor said.
