From the Monterey Herald:

Wah Ming Chang, an Academy Award-winning animator and local artist, died Monday. He was 86.

Chang designed costumes for the films "The King and I" and "Can-Can," and made a headdress for Elizabeth Taylor in "Cleopatra." He sculpted a series of heads to animate the first Pillsbury Doughboy and made creatures for the television series "The Outer Limits" and "Star Trek." It was his work on "The Time Machine" that earned him an Oscar for special effects.

Yet Chang said his greatest achievements were a life well-lived and the love story he shared with his wife of nearly 60 years, Glenella Taylor Chang.

"It was a love story that never actually ended," Virginia Park, his caretaker and companion for more than seven years, said Monday. "Several times last night he said, 'Glen's playing with my toe.' It was a little signal they had when she was alive. At 6:30 in the morning, he said it again. A few hours later, he was gone."

Anyone who has the books The Art of Star Trek and Inside Star Trek: The Real Story knows that Wah Chang was a genius in his time and a titan to Star Trek as great as Matt Jeffries.
