*CORRECTION* Adult or young adult/teen. Sorry about that. :}

Hey gang!

Think back to the stuff you did as a kid but lost that skill as you have matured over the years.

- For me I wasn't very good with blowing bubbles from bubble gum as a kid...can't do it as an adult.

- Climbing trees and performing stunts on my bike, jumping from substantial heights, etc... Now I say to myself, "I'm really going to break my hip, leg, neck, etc... if I did a stupid stunt like that."

- For an oldtimer like myself I was good with cave drawings back in the day. ;)

I pretty much stayed the same as back then, I didn't change much at all, except I have lost...

- The ability to stay sober for a long period of time.

I used to be able to do a back bend, and walk on my hands for very short periods of time. I could do cartwheels too *L*

I could also keep a hula hoop going and I was on a jump roping team.

Ok that's all just too sad and depressing now. *L*

I still have the mentality of a child... or a chimp. You decide! I still run and jump around like I'm four... or again, a chimp. You decide!

I did used to be artistic (won a butt load of prizes and competitions), but as time went by I kinda found less and less time to draw. :(

SG, is really a chimp! :? Who told you?

Although I am still technically a teenager, I have noticed that throughout the aging process I have lost the ability to exist happily in my own little world.  Increasingly, things bother me.

I work in the audio visual section of Kmart, and I have also noticed an alarming difference between children/adults.  Kids never want bags.  Adults always want bags.  Then, there is this bizarre stage of development where I say:  "Do you want a bag with that?" and the maturing kid goes:  "No... I mean yes... umm..." and suddenly they are caught between their childhood instinct to rip open their purchase and bask in its newness and their adult instinct to wrap it in plastic and horde it from the world until it is within the safety of the home.

Alarming, I know... *goes to write a paper on it*

A slightly depressing topic, eh? ;)

I lost my ability to daydream for extended periods of time. As a kid / teen, I used to walk around with hordes of invisible friends (and no, I did have a lot of real friends too).
One day, I noticed that they had faded away. I still daydream, but usually at night, before falling asleep, and it's a lot harder to build up the elaborate storylines that came so easy to me when I was younger.

I lost the ability to practice Kenpo without bringing great pain to my shoulder and wrist, and knee. Man I'm old :(

And I lost the ability to slip on ice and not hurt something,
and I cant play the Cello anymore, but I need to learn again..
Lost the ability to stomach 8 liters of coke a day.
And I too have lost the ability to live in my own little world, now you're all here :P *mutters about being invaded and firing my gatekeeper*

I see a trend...we are all losing the ability to exist happily in our own worlds, and not feel so invaded every friggin' day.

I have also lost the ability to eat ice cream. That in and of itself is more horrid then you can imagine.

I was an outstanding chess player as a kid. I was beating experienced adults in tornaments.

Now i'm completely out of practice, and i'm sure if went back in time and played my twelve year old self, i'd struggle to win *l*

I used to be able to stand on the bus and not hold on to anything (barring unexpected sudden breaking).

I used to be able to stand on my hands (back against the wall).

I los the ability to be a pirate....*parrot lands on his shoulder with his pirate hat* oh wait, nevermind! :D

lesse....I lost the ability to go out in the yard and dig huge holes to see if there was anything underground. (mainly cause I mow the grass and its a pain to mow around random holes)

I have not however, lost the ability to act like a kid...and fortunately enough I work at a place that is tolerant of that. I've also lost the ability to be pushed around by other people that used to harass me in school....now they're scared of me :k

Well this is a very "glass half empty" thread :P  To answer it, I have forgotten how to roll my R's, I used to be able to do it for what seemed like an endless period of time, don't know what happened there

Now to address the glass half full side of this, I can now made a complete and unter idiot of myself, and not care, and if anything, be proud as it has entertained the masses.  I can run further and faster.  I worry much less about hurting myself or dying (hence the Supersports motorbike)  I used to get into a lot of trouble as a child, but didn't really intend to.  Now I still get into trouble, but I go out of my way to do it, I call it fun :k  Oh yes, and compared to when I was around 5, I appreciate women on a whole different level :k

Not a bad trade off really, loosing the ability to roll your R's for all of that.

I prefer being an adult :D.  I can still daydream with the best of them, I prefer sitting on the bus anyways because I can read my book and as doing handstands really isn't top priority I'm not considering it a big loss ;).

Sorry if this thread has been a bit of a downer gang... Not the intent at all. :(

Looks like everyone still has their inner child intact. Even though priorites change and responsibility tends to take control we can still drift off into a simpler time when our imagination can run rampant. If I lost that ability then I would be very concerned.

Don't worry Babel...you're not the only one that dodges people in large crowds like the Millenium Falcon in an asteroid field. As long as some prissy droid isn't telling me in a British accent that, "We're doomed!" then all is well. ;)

*L* I'm sure your woman would appreciate it if you could roll your R's again Mark... *coughs* ;) :k

If only they would make nap time at work mandatory. That would make folks much happier.

The only thing I don't do now that I did as a kid is ski. I used to be good at it, or at least, fearless. As time went on I realized how miserable it is to zoom down an icy slope on two planks, wind blowing through my soaked snowsuit from all those falls/playing in the snow. Runny nose, difficult boots, fidgety gloves. I became slower, till I just figured, why bother?

That's all :) the rest improved!

I actually am a lot happier with myself then I was a teenager.... kinda going back to my happiness as a child with myself.

I lost my ability to kill Klingons invading our woods at home... it's crawling with them now.  :P

Actually.... Sleeping soundly, but I've always been a night owl too.

The one thing I am glad I haven't lost... just adjusted... is my imagination and ability to amuse myself. My friends are always so bored here at the dorms on base... me... I'm happily singing, writing, or doing something to amuse myself. And instead of going outside to play Star Trek or Walker, Texas Ranger.... I write my stories. That's my gift from God... my imagination and my singing....

Okay, I'm only 17, but there have been changes from when I was a little kid, I swear!
I used to throw huuuge tantrums, and I've lost that ability... I can still get very, very angry, but I usually don't do it by screaming my head off in the middle of a shop or something. :P
I used to be able to climb through my window, when I was 11... I've grown a little since then. :?
I've lost and gained self-confidence... I guess you get to a point when you come out of your child's world and start seeing the bigger picture... that's tough. At the same time, I've learned to live with it, and be confident about myself even when faced with life's vastness. ;)
Other than that - my imagination is still the same, I can still ice skate, ski, row, swim etc... and if anything, I've got more hyper. I've lost the ability to control my weirdness. Or gained enough confidence not to care about controlling it, however you look at it. :P
Oh! And I've also lost the ability to look the other way when I see a good-looking guy. :? :k

Well, uhh, I guess one of the things I've lost is social skills when confronted with a new person face to face in a one-on-one situation.  Besides that, I am still intact and have been for 18 years.
