First off, I do want to say that I DO appreciate the fact that we even GET Halloween avvys. I, also, want to thank the people involved, well, except the CCC room (but I suppose they have a few more days before Halloween...:|;). Also, I want to say that yes, it's easy for me to be critical because I don't even know HOW to make avvys. But...

I think the avvy selection this year is fairly pathetic.

In TF, they have Wizard of Oz avvys. Now, I could see the Wicked Witch, but Dorothy and Toto and all? And, where are all the classic horror movie characters!? There is not ONE Friday the 13th, Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, etc. avvys, not even an avvy with the main charaters such as Michael, Freddy, Jason, Exorcist little girl, etc. I just don't see how Wizard of Oz and "Scary Movie" avvys replace the good ole classics! Now, I'm not saying they didn't do a good job, but they could have cut down the Buffy and Underworld lists and added more of the classic movies. Also, what happened to actual famous criminals? Those aren't present this year either... Plus, it doesn't seem like the selection this year is in a great abundance either. But, that's here nor there.

In Minas Tirith, I commend them more but only a slight amount. They have a large lists to choose from, but still they lack the classics. But, they do have some of the newer "horror" movies which is nice, such as Van Helsing. But still, they could have cut down some of their categories, just a few out of each, to at least put in SOME of the classic people. And, maybe some famous killers as well...

In CCC, I'm still holding out for their avvys...:| Come on you guys! Give us time to use the avvys before they get revamped to the usual avvys! :( :P *prods*

Now, I'm not sure if this is the correct way to go about expressing how I feel, but I was just wondering if I'm the only one feeling this way. I don't think I am, though. I've heard a few people say that they want their so and so avvy from past years...

Again, I want to say that I DO appreciate what the people did for Halloween avvys this year, but I think they could have spent less time on some avvys and made some more of the classic Halloween avvys. And, I DO appreciate even having avvys. Thank you, again, y'all. But still... This still bothered me too much to just forget about it. :)

-RPMObsession, disappointed. :(

P.S. Why isn't TF's upper space (Transmit, receieve, personnel, and such) decorated a little? :(

I've got Carnage in MT, and Gambit in TF... I think that'll keep me quiet for a while.... that and the sedatives being pumped in to me to suppress the voices. :)

Hi,

A big thanks to everyone who helped out in making avatars get files ready, get them loaded onto the server in time for Halloween.

Great job thanks a  lot to you all!

My suggestion as far as want something but don't see it make the avatar and submit to the relevant SC and ask them if they will consider including it next time there is a special event or when ever they feel that avatars need to be reworked.

You never know!

Babel: I, personally, don't think I was being harsh in the least. I said twice that I DID appreciate what was done, but I just hoped that they would have done more traditional avvies. I AM greatful for what they DID do, though. I said that. And, as far as being pathetic, I felt that compared to past years (I've been here for two) they weren't as great. I mean, I just don't see how you can have no classic horror movie characters. I did not set out for this to be a rag on the people that made them. I was just disappointed that there weren't some of the more traditional avvys. Like, AJ said, there are ones that appear year to year that weren't included in this years selections, and, personally, I like these choices of avvies best out of every holiday. So, I was a little let-down when I didn't see some of the classics in the selections. And, as far as the time they have on-line, like I said before..."they could have cut down some of their categories, just a few out of each, to at least put in SOME of the classic people". :)

Hong: The problem with that is some of us don't know HOW to make avatars like me. And, by the time some of us even made our suggestions...it'd be too late anyways, or they might not get put up. And, yes they could show again, but I doubt that...I mean, who's going to remember specific request for next year?

Again, I want to say that I AM appreciative. And, I thank you all involved in the making of the avvys, but I just would have liked to see some of the classics. That's all...

Glee-a: Yes, but it's finding someone who can give you a site...or take the time and show you that is difficult. Plus, sometimes it's not that I can't do it..but the language used with it...I get made fun of or poked at because I don't know what words mean and such. You've done it yourself...(May I remind you of "Nomad?" ) Not that they don't help afterwards, but you are warry of asking due to the fact that you don't wish to be made fun of for your ignorance. "It's no secret when Halloween is, or that OTF has special avatars, smileys, and chat top designs sometime near Oct 31. " Yes, but how was I suppose to know that some of my preferences went going to be there? It wasn't a question in my mind...but now that I see they aren't. It IS too late to do anything about it. And maybe this forum thread will tell next years people to at least throw in some of the oldies. Where as jsut an e-mail requesting so would not. And, yes, I was aware of that after I was told by Babe to refresh that...But, how was I suppose to know? Hence, why I put it as a P.S. and nothing big. :P

Lzrman: The OTF pumpkin along with the other two pumpkin carvings were very awesome. They were amongst the few I would use, but I never go into Minas so... :P

I know this may sound like a realy dumb idea but being one of the technically inept, will throw in my 2 cents.

I have always liked the Halloween avatars, regardless of the chat room you enter. Having spent 5 Halloween holidays at OTF, I was wondering what ever happened to all those avatars the were created over the years?

Seems that if we kept them year after year we could add new ones as movies were released, or we had a few spare minutes to make one or 2 as the year went by. Then, when Halloween, or any other holiday came around, we'd have a stash of both the old favorites and new stuff.

Yes, I do agree that sometimes when I have asked a technical type question, I haven't felt very comfortable with the answer, because I just didn't know what they were talking about. But I would certainly like to learn to make avatars.

If one of our technical guru's, or anyone else, for that matter, had the time to put together some instructions fo us non-technical peeps, this would be a great fun thing to do and contribute to the community.

I know the EC and ENG gang is always busy, but if we had a place where we could save and stash and submit new avatars over the course of the year, maybe we would have more when the holidays rolled around. There certainly are lots of places one can go for images and pics year round.

That said, would have loved having a "Fred" (from Angel) avvy this year, and if someone is willing to teach this old redhead how to do it, I guarantee you'll have one is the stash for next year. And since I have been looking for a redheaded elf since MT opened, maybe I can figure out how to do that too :)

Regardless, I do thank the people who spent time this year making the new faces for us and hope that we will continue to offer special avatars for special occasions. Maybe if we put together a time schedule for each holiday (i.e.) when the images have to be submitted, along with a list of do's and dont's, and a place where all the images are stored so we aren't duplicating past efforts, you just might get lots of members contributing on an annual basis and take some of the stress and strain off the folks who normally get stuck doing this project.

Sorry for the ramble - kinda got away from me this time.

Hello,

I'd just like to say that this year I made all the Minas Tirith Avatars from scratch because I don't have an 'avatar stash' anywhere. I spend many hours learning how to make a database file (which contains the listing of avatars) and making avatars for Minas Tirith this year. I'm sorry we didn't meet your complete satisfaction for avatar selection, we're busy folk. To be fair, I did make a post on the updates board in Minas Tirith that we were looking for Halloween Images that you wanted made into avatars for the Minas Tirith Halloween - only Dracmus responded to that posting. I thank you for your slight enjoyment of the Halloween Avatars and I do hope you'll visit Minas Tirith and enjoy the hard work that I put into that chatroom for your Halloween enjoyment. I personally think it's the best decorated room in all of the outpost.... (note, serious bias there... )

Sincerely,

Nobbe (CL7)

Nobbe: About the updates board, that was my mistake. I never do check that thing... I'm sorry on that one. And, I have said over and over that I DO appreciate your effort and time in doing this.

Kali: I like that idea.

Babel: I don't think it's harsh when I clearly state why int eh paragraphs to follow, nor do I think it's harash when I clearly state in the opening and closing paragraphs that I DO appreciate what they did.

Also, I could be wrong, but it seemed like in past years that the uniformity of the chatroom avvys have been more together. If that is true, then wouldn't that have saved a little bit of work? Instead of having each group do a list, if they would have broken the list up into different categories? Also, it saves the chatter time from going through each list to pick out what avvy for what room.

And, I'm tired of being called ungreatful. I'm not, and I thought I clearly stated that. I was just disappointed when I didn't see some of the classic avvys. I look forward to these avvys more than any other holiday, and when they didn't turn out to be the old ones, I was very upset. So, I voiced my opinion in a thread. Now, I know I'm not the only one who would have liked to see so and so avvy from years past, but I was the only one for formally stated it. So, please stop calling me ungreatful because I'm not. I DO appreciate what went into this event and I am thankful for the people that did it.

In an effort to keep things ever changing and shake them up a bit, I personally chose Wizard of Oz, and Super Heros (which isn't up yet) in an attempt at humor. TONS of kids dress up as "hero's" and "princesses" and things more unique, it was all an effort at being a little weird. That's pretty much it. No other motive, just some silliness in the mix.

Sorry they don't meet your approval :) As for everything else, we busted our butts and have worked almost non stop around the clock, to get up what is up. I really hope in the long run everyone enjoys it!

Happy Halloween Gang!

Thank you Eagle for volunteering to be the Keeper of the Avatars!

If you could build a spot where we could go look, then we could fill in areas where we might have special interests or images that we particularly like.

I have a couple of CCC pics I have collected over the years that I wanted to use for Christmas, but never knew how to make it happen. Would be happy to send them in once I perfect the process.

I do think that it might be interesting if we could use all the avatars in all the chats, regardless of affiliation. I think, as Deanna mentioned, that she had a particular favorite in MT. It would be a shame if we couldn't take our favorites with us from room to room. During special holidays, it would be nice if we could eliminate the walls between the chat rooms.

Again, Just a suggestion.

And, I think rpmobsession has made it perfectly clear that he wasn't picking on anyone or pointing fingers or being uappreciateve. Just disappointed.  Let's stop whipping that dead horse, please. He has apologized more than once for something that I believe was not mean or malicious and I tend to agree with him.

Now that that is over and done with, and Eagle and Nobbe have jumped in to help us technical inepts, lets shut this one down and lock it up.

Hey,

Aye there has been a uniformity in avatars in years past but this year the SC’s decided to be different for each room which is pretty cool as it gives everyone a much wider choice and makes each genre different.

Just remember if you do have an avatar then submit it to the relevant SC or to all of them, telling them what holiday it is for!

As it is if anyone has some good Christmas smileys please send it to me, I am looking for some Christmas smileys!

It is a good idea to keep special avatars in one place, I  am not sure where this would be but I will talk to the rest of the team about it!

Now I am locking this thread and thanks again to all who put in so much work to make Halloween fun!

Hong,

If the contributors are willing, we could keep them in the Seniors' Playgound under a section called Holidays-->[holiday name].
Otherwise, I can just hide them in a folder somewhere only the SCs know about.
The Holidays team's web space could also be a good place for them. *l*
Or Sector Command could come up with something completely different. *shrug*
