HAPPY 41st BIRTHDAY, DOCTOR WHO! 
For all its budget, for all its knock of violence, for all the flubbed lines and bad special effects (just look at that monster suit! ... This cult TV show has shaped so many lives. It has spanned the decades, bringing joy, happiness and countless hours of entertainment for young and old.
The little show that refused to die, despite the hounding of TV censors proclaiming it was too violent and scary for the kids who had to hide behind the couch... It outlasted the original Star Trek, Blake's 7 and many more.
It has spawned countless books, T-shirts and millions of pieces of merchandise. The Daleks with their shrill cry EXTERMINATE! are cultural icons and are recognisable by almost anyone who has not lived under a rock... Even if they never understood what the fuss was all about.
Doctor Who aired on the 23rd of November, 1963 and continues to make its mark on the world. When the new season airs in 2005, it will have been as if nothing has changed. It will seamlessly blend in with the previous seasons, making the 2005 season, Season 27.
Not bad for a little show that started with an eccentric and grumpy (though brilliant) grandfather, his unearthly granddaughter and two somewhat skeptical but delightful school teachers... And all done on a shoestring budget...
And all done for the past forty one years without anybody actually asking the Doctor, "What the bloody hell is your name anyway?". Pure magic.
Happy 41st Birthday, Doctor Who!
