Being as this post didn't belong in the London, Ontario - 06 thread and is infact proposing a new union, I've created a new thread to discuss this.

===========================
Lets get the union changed to Toronto Canada. I don't drive, and I live in Toronto. In Toronto there is more to see and do. The union would have to be a Friday night -Sunday night.

Lets have the union at Toronto Trek 20 in Toronto. Then we can be together all weekend. Toronto Trek is a Sci-Fi  con usually held every July. We get over 2500+ from all over Canada and USA. It is a fan run Con. From OTF Rozokov(Dmitri), not sure what he goes by here now. He is from either London or Hamilton Ontario I think. I think he has been coming to OTF since 1998. I met him at Toronto Trek 1 year. The Con will most likely be at the DoubleTree hotel again on the airport strip. The Con as great hotel prices  each year. I did not go this year, but the hotel was 135.00/night I think. This is a special price, since this hotel is very expensive. It will also cost you to get into the con,  food all weekend, what you buy in the dealers room. If you get anything from the art show/auction and if you get anything from the charity auction. The con has over 250 hrs. of programming. you can hear the actors talk. Stand in 1 line to get there autograph and 1 line to get your pic with the actors. There is Friday night Klingon Karaoke. It is really regular Karaoke. We have a masquerade to watch and a Saturday night dance afterwards. People have room parties. Panels to join. 10 forward for kids, which one of the parents must be with them. Aso a Video room. You make new friends. If you come to 1 con, you keep coming back year after year.  Alot of folks only meet up at the con every year. The con website is www.tcon.ca but only the discussion forum is working right now. check throughout the year for the date of the con the actors coming etc. If you read the discussion forum, I think 2 actors have been announced already.

I have been asking OTFer's for years to attend with no luck what so ever. I hope to attend in 2006, and see many of you there, if we can get this planed. I HOPE THIS WILL ACTUALLY HAPPEN IN 2006. I HAVE BEEN ASKING PEOPLE TO COME, SINCE I JOINED OTF IN 1998.

If you people are Sci-Fi fans like you all claim to be, you would save up your money all year, like you do  to go to other OTF  unions, and come to this con. Or you could just come to Toronto and I could vist with you all 1 weekend. Why are you all so quick to throw Toronto out the window. You go to the UK, USA and other countries. All these places cost money. They even cost airfare. So be kind to me, and not so quick to dismiss coming to Toronto. Lets please have a discussion about this.  At the con we usually get 10 actors or so, from many different Sci-Fi shows. Toronto has so many things to see and to do. I know you all would have so much fun. Ask any OTFer who has been to Toronto, or who lives within Toronto. Demon Slayer has even been to Toronto. He can tell you all what a great city this is, if you all don't believe someone who lives here. :(

Yeah, but KJR, you cant expect people to save all year for a short trip like that...

I mean, most of the people coming to Cork are staying in accomodation for around €10 a night or so. That's only USD$12.37. And CAD$14.98. Asking people to pay $135 per night PLUS convention fees is asking a bit much.

People aren't rich. They may be sci-fi fans. But they aren't rich.

Just making a point.

Well people can still come to Toronto. They don't have to come to the con. They can still stay in area hotels, and I could visit with them on a weekend. There is no hotel or motel in and  around Toronto for 14.98 Canadian. Not even in London Ontrio, for the planned union. I think the cheapest hotel or motel in Toronto  and surrounding area, or in London Ontario would be $50.00/night. But this is only a guess. So Canada anywhere, is not as cheap as Cork. So I feel if people can go to London Ontario, they can come to Toronto Ontario as well, or instead of going to London Ontario. Have an open mind folks!

Hmm won't be leaving the country unless I win the lottery.

You should maybe bear in mind that travel to an 10f union nearer your own country (or in it) can cost less than £100, travelling the other side of the world can cost over £1000.  That's not including hotel costs and wot not and lets face it, few of us are paid well, so don't take it personally ;)

Though, I'm still going to be negotiating with the hotels here in London to see what kind of rate I would be able to get from everyone one. Especially since I work in the Hotel Industry, I would be able to swindle a good rate SOMEWHERE if you knew what buttons to push and/or were willing to put in some of your own funds to get people food. However, I will be detailing the information soon.

Saying sorry does not help. You just should not have slamed me in the first place. You might be in the hotel industry, but why would people want to sleep 4 to a room. Surely not me. I forgot what we paid at the Las Vegas Union in 1999 for our hotel, but not 25.00 for sure. We only slept 2 to a room, and we all paid for a meeting room and DJ. That was not so cheap. So if OTFer's can pay for that, they can come to Toronto. Also I can't pay for  food for anyone  in a restaurant or anywhere else. I make next to no money. I only clean homes for a maid service. I guess people don't like a big city, or me. If people can't afford to come to Toronto, maybe they are to young to be at a Union. We had people at our Las Vegas union from Austraila. The farthest away, and the most expensive, but they saved up to come. These were young people like yourselves. So I guess if you don't like the people attending or hosting the union, your not going to save your money to come.

Well I wish this union would happen, but I know it won't. I know I am just wasting my time year after year, asking for this union. Wishes never come true anyway. Well I said my peace for now, till I read the next message from someone here, and answer it.

Kathryn, where did Nobbe slam you? He didn't as far as I can tell. Can I just point out that you state yourself that you don't have much money, yet are quite happy for other people to save up all year because you can't afford to go to them. It works two ways.

I would love to go to a union, however at this time I wouldn't be able to afford it. But I'm not expecting everyone to come to me because of this. Can you see why people aren't jumping at the offer?

I'm sure that eventually there will be a union you can attend and others will be able to afford. In the meantime, like me and people far afield, we just have to be patient ;)

I'd just like to comment that QD made some great points and that no one will come to a union, if you decide to continually harp on people year after year.  People just get sick and tired of it.

Nobbe's concerns are well noted, and I do believe if you have problems you should personnally email him.

Being as this topic has degraded from conversation about PLANNING a union to something else, I am here by closing this thread. Inquiries about the Toronto Union can be made to KJR herself. Please open a new thread for further Toronto Union Planning. =) q
